As an almost full-time volunteer for the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation, I get to see the day-to-day impact their awareness and education programs provide, not only for the community, but for the USA and even on a global basis. The National Reye's Syndrome Foundation is going on 38 years of untiring service and dedication in their goal to eradicate Reye's Syndrome, and their ceaseless and vigilant efforts have brought reported Reye's Syndrome cases to an all time low! I think this speaks to their determination, on-going efforts, and leadership in managing the foundation. I very much enjoy volunteering my time for such a worthy cause and organization!

Mission: In 1974, the National Reye's Syndrome Foundation, a children's health advocacy organization, was incorporated as a 501(c)3 charity, whose mission is to eradicate the incidence of Reye's Syndrome.
Results: The National Reye's Syndrome Foundation's Awareness and Eduction programs have significantly decreased the incidence of Reye's Syndrome in children around the world. 2011 was a landmark year, as Bayer Consumer Care, and Ilex Corporation - the owner of St Joseph Aspirin - both agreed to remove the term 'baby' from all aspirin products and marketing so as not to confuse consumers into thinking their products were safe for infants and children. Reaching this goal has been a 37 year effort for the NRSF, and attaining it guarantees the safety of even more children's lives. We thank the FDA, Bayer, and Ilex Corporation for their support and commitments to this great achievement.

Programs: The Foundation's Top Objectives Are: * AWARENESS - to aid in early detection of Reye's SYndrome, and educate the public and medical communities about the risk involved with using aspirin and other salicylates. * SERVICE - to provide emotional support and guidance to families experiencing the trauma of Reye's Syndrome. * RESEARCH - to support investigation into the disease's cause, management, treatment and prevention, as well as study its impact on survivors.
