Mission: The National Kidney Foundation of Kentucky serves the residents of Kentucky and southern Indiana through a three-point program of patient and community education, patient assistance and research. The NKFK is a voluntary driven organization, dependent solely upon funds raised through fundraising, special events, grants and contributions from the public. We receive no monetary support from the National Kidney Foundation. We provide to kidney patients, at no cost, medic alert jewelry. We also operate an emergency assistance fund for kidney and transplant patients to help them get through their ordeal when financial issues become paramount in their lives. Additionally, we provide education to patients, their families and the public at health fairs, with our speaker's bureau, at specific educational programs such as People Like Us, Live!, and through our in office Helpline. We sponsor a once a month support group in Louisville, Kentucky. Our quarterly newsletter "Kidney Konnections" provides the latest information on kidney disease and keeps readers abreast of the activities going on at the NKFK. A new program is in the works for 2001...Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP).
