Causes: Women, Womens Service Clubs
Mission: The national council of jewish women, greater detroit section, inc. (ncjw) is dedicated to improving the lives of women, children and families. Members identify local challenges, develop responses, and provide assistance and support to those in need.
Programs: Kosher meals on wheels meals on wheels provides kosher meals monday-friday to homebound disabled and elderly participants. Approximately 70 individuals served daily, providing 22,000 meals annually. Participants can order up to 5 lunches and 5 dinners per week.
back 2 school store the back 2 school store is a one-day event that is designed to look like a department store. An adult volunteer will be a child's personal shopper and assist in selecting new clothes, backpacks and school supplies. While the child is shopping, parents, guardians and caregivers will have the opportunity to visit the resource center/health fair where programs and community resource information will be provided. Approximately 550 children, from pre-qualified, low-income households in the city of detroit, benefit from this program. Children are selected by local non-profit agencies working in cooperation with ncjw/greater detroit.
additional community service projects ncjw/greater detroit provides advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels along with twenty community service projects meeting the needs of women, children, and families including the following programs: children's advocates for court appointed guardians, providing backpacks filled with school supplies for homeless children in oakland county, tutoring and reading to children at coleman a. Young elementary school in detroit, and bereavement support groups.
