Causes: Military & Veterans Organizations, Veterans
Mission: NCHV was established in 1990 by leaders of various community-based, nonprofit homeless veteran service providers. In 1993 NCHV opened its Washington, DC office to serve as a liaison between homeless veteran service providers, homeless veterans, Congress, Executive Branch agencies, other community-based organizations and the general public. Today, as in the past, NCHV remains steadfast to its original goal of informative representation, and the ongoing elimination of homelessness within the veteran community.
Results: Since 1990, NCHV has worked in partnership with the Departments of Veterans Affairs, Labor, and Housing and Urban Development to provide housing, employment assistance and a wide range of supportive services to help homeless veterans rebuild their lives. These federal agencies, in partnership with community- and faith-based service providers, have reduced the number of homeless veterans on any given night from 250,000 in 2004 to 107,000 in 2009.
