Assistance League Rancho San Dieguito provides school clothing to over 1000 students in our local school districts and Camp Pendleton every year. This is our Operation School Bell program.
The shopping events are held at our local Target store and families are invited to attend an evening or Saturday morning event. They shop for clothes and shoes with their child and are given a set amount that they can spend--this year it was $70, which is tax-free because we are a 501 (c) (3) organization.
Our members work with the families to be sure they are spending the full amount and answer their questions. It is so rewarding to see the smiling faces and the hugs we receive from the children as they leave with their new clothes.

This group of volunteers helps youngsters in need get ready for school by providing a back to school shopping experience, helping students get new school clothes. Every October we work with Target to set aside registers and funds supplied by the Assistance League to help learners feel their best as they start the school year.

Did you know that all of these women are volunteers? They staff an Encinitas Thrift store, Fabulous Finds to support their philanthropies. They staff the store 6 days a week! And, they are always helpful - they have fun helping customers!
One of the philanthropies that I especially like is the Assault Survivor Kit program. Last year the women provided 400 survivors of sexual assault a change of clothes and toiletries. his is important since a survivor leaves clothes with the police when an attac is reported. They extended the program to provide "court kits" (notepads & snacks) to support women who face their attacker in court.
It's truly amazing the power of volunteers to make a difference.
