Mission: Contemplative education is an approach to learning that integrates the best of Eastern and Western educational traditions, creating and implementing a new paradigm in higher education. This model seeks to help students know themselves deeply so that they can engage constructively in a world of individuals who are not like themselves. Naropa's contemplative education tradition encourages students to develop and explore their whole being on the deepest, intuitive levels, while pursuing rigorous academic study. The goal of a Naropa education is producing graduates who are better able to identify and pursue fulfilling personal and career goals in richer, fuller relationship with the world.
Programs: The university offers undergraduate, graduate and continuing educationprograms in arts, social sciences and the humanities. It isaccredited by the higher learning commission. There are approximately 1,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Instruction, student services, and academic support program services all support the university's purpose and mission to educate the whole person.
alaya preschool operates as a preschool and child care facility serving children and their families in the greater boulder area. As part of naropa university, alaya preschool operates as a lab school serving students in naropa's early childhood and contemplative education programs. Alaya is licensed by the colorado department of human services, division of child care and serves approximately 60 families. Financial support is provided for some families through scholarships for tuition assistance.
