Mission: Significantly reduce child sexual abuse, child physical abuse, neglect, other forms of child maltreatment, support survivors of sexual abuse, and increase public awareness.
Programs: Ncptc (national child protection training center) provides ongoing training, technical assistance, and publications to thousands of child protection professionals in the field. In partnership with winona state university, ncptc implements an undergraduate curriculum-child advocacy studies (cast)-that is nationally recognized as model training. Additionally, ncptc focuses on improving education of front line child protection professionals by implementing a model medical school curriculum.
outreach/education: ncptc provides training to thousands of child protection professionals in the field of child protection, including: social workers, forensic interviewers, police officers, attorneys, and investigators. Ncptc trains approximately 14,000 professionals every year from all 50 states and 17 different countries. Ncptc speakers train and educate professionals on how to recognize, respond, and react to children of abuse.
childfirst: the childfirst program focuses on significantly improving the quality of forensic/investigative interviews of child abuse victims. The program's objectives include: 1) conduct a basic and advanced national forensic interviewing program center around ratac; 2) provide additional resources to front line interviewers utilizing the ratac protocol; 3) evaluate the ratac protocol with a systematic evaluation plan and publish research documenting the efficacy of ratac when used by front line child protection professionals; and 4) assist states in developing forensic interview training programs modeled after cornerhouse
victim assistance: ncptc, through the jacob wetterling resource center program, provides support, resources, and educational information to victims of child abuse, parents/families of victims, and local minnesota communities.
