NAMI is an absolutely great organization.
After being diagnosed with a mental illness I thought my whole entire life was over.
It was in an Intensive Outpatient Program that I met a speaker from NAMI that gave me hope that recovery was possible.
I have since been compliant with taking my medication, going to therapy bi-weekly, and attending support group meetings weekly and monthly through NAMI.
They have provided me with a place where I no longer feel alone.
I have been given back my life and my voice as a result of being involved with NAMI.
I am a Peer to Peer Mentor, Connection Recovery Support Group Facilitator, a Delegate on the NAMI Texas Consumer Council, and on June 18-19, 2011 I will train to be a Provider Education Program Consumer Member.

Programs: Education programs - nami dallas offers an array of education programs for individuals living with mental health conditions. Family members and the general public. These programs provide relevant information, valuable insight, and the opportunity to engage in support networks and draw on the lived experience of peers and family members who have been extensively trained to help others. Nami dallas programs are offered free of charge. Nami dallas also offers monthly program meetings with invited guest speakers which focus on topical information. All programs are free and open to the public
support groups - nami provides free peer-led support groups for family members and for adults living with mental health conditions. All groups follow a structured model and are led by trained facilitators with lived experience. Many participants consider these groups vital in their recovery journey, with empathy and in helping to better understand their loved ones.
namiwalk - a community event to raise mental illness awareness campaign. The event involves an estimated 1200 plus volunteers, sponsors, entertainers and walkers, as well as affiliates from across the region.
