The settlement, approved by the court on september 30, 2010, commits the state of illinois, over a period of five years, to develop more supportive housing and offer imd residents the opportunity to live and receive services in integrated, community settings.

Helpline- nami chicago answered the call for 2,515 individuals, families and professionals through the organization's referral helpline. From housing and light care coordination to crisis support, nami chicagos staff listens and takes action to connect the right person with the right program(s). Public education- nami chicago increased mental health literacy and fought the stigma of mental illness by reaching nearly 1,000 people through professional development training. Crisis intervention team (cit) - nami chicago trained almost 1,800 emergency responders with enhanced skills to serve those living with mental illness from a place of compassion. Support groups- nami chicago helped 316 people experiencing the pain that can accompany mental health conditions join together at nami chicago-hosted support groups and family to family classes in english and spanish. Moving on - nami chicago connected with 1,112 individuals living at psychiatric nursing homes through outreach activities designed to help them transition to independent living.
in-home recovery support - nami chicago has been contracted by the illinois department of human services, division of mental health, to provide peer support services to residents moving out of the 24 illinois nursing facilities categorized as institutes for mental disease (imd) into independent community living under the williams consent decree. Nami recovery support providers provide support and reassurance in exercising new skills, adjusting to new environments, or experiencing potential stressors provided to outreach members in early transition from an imd to independent community living by a person with lived experience in recovery.
