Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Community Clinics, Congregate Meals, Food, Food Programs, Health, Meals on Wheels

Mission: The mission of My Brother's Table is to nourish our community every day through hospitality, free meals and unconditional love. My Brother's Table has provided over 7.5 million free meals in Lynn, MA since 1982 entirely through private funds. The Table does not use government funding in order to provide hospitality to as many guests as possible with as little bureaucracy as possible. The Table provides two meals a day, 365 days a year. We also deliver meals to seniors, homebound individuals, teen mothers, and low income families through partnerships with other agencies. We also provide a free medical clinic weekly. In 2023, we provided 997,489 free meals. Our guests range from infants to over 90 years old. 2/3rds of our guests are disabled, and although 30% of our guests work, most are day-laborers with sporadic hours and no benefits. Almost half of our guests have no place to store or prepare food because they are homeless, living in a shelter or rooming house. The city of Lynn’s population is over 100,000 people, and 40% are low income households who have a difficult time affording housing and other basic human needs. One in 5 people living in the city are food insecure, meaning that they do not have adequate resources to ensure access to proper nutrition.

MBT is a great place to volunteer. You get to work in the kitchen making the dinners and then you serve the food in the cafeteria. It's usually very busy at first and then it slows down so you can take the time to talk to the people who eat there. There are a lot of characters! It's really organized and clean and it's a big place but it doesn't feel like a factory. Everyone is very nice and it's rewarding to help out. Try it!

I love My Brother's Table!!! I've been coming since I started at English and we really like it. It's really fun if you come with a group but you can come alone or with another person. There are people from a lot of places you might know some of them. You should go!

The guests and volunteers are what makes My Brother's Table special. What makes My Brother's Table subpar is the disorganization and ineptitude of the Board and the front office staff.

I volunteer at My Brother's Table once a month as part of our church group and as an individual once a week. MBT is an excellent organization and feeds a lot of people with limited resources.

I have been involved with My Brothers Table since day one and think it does a superb job in serving those in need. Unfortunately because of a severe back problem I can no longer take an active part in the meal program but try my best to help in raising funds.

I volunteer at lunch one day each week and for the main meal on one Saturday a month (18 years now). There can be no experience like it: the volunteers are friendly and dedicated; the guests could not be nicer nor more appreciative of what is made available to them. The meals are nutritious, and other services provided are a great bonus for the guests. It is a service of great necessity in Lynn. I can't imagine my life without being one of its volunteers.

I have been helping at My Brothers Table for many years. Currently I go one day a week to do whatever is needed. Sometimes there are vegetables to be cut, sandwiches to be made, fruit to be plated and there is always food to be put away in the dry goods pantry. The most rewarding is the service of our guests. They are appreciative and generally gracious. I enjoy bringing young people (high schoolers) periodically to serve. They love the experience.

My Brother's Table is a great place to go if you want to meet some great volunteers and if you want to meet some very nice people. It's ok if you dont know how to cook. Its ok if you are nervous to talk people you dont know. No matter what there is always something you can do to help. Its a safe and fun place to volunteer, and if you are nervous or hesitant about volunteering, this is a great first place to start.

My Brothers Table is truly a place that welcomes everyone and feels more like a community kitchen than a "soup kitchen." I've served there but even more often, go to eat with the guests to learn from them and hear their stories and give my family an experience to interact with folks from different walks of life. Only at MBT could that happen so easily around such good food!

Ihave been a volunteer cook once a month for a number of years. It has been a very rewarding experience, especially when the guests send compliments to the cook. Usually, the guests are appreciative and polite and it is a blessing to me and my fellow volunteers to serve them. The group of volunteers on that day are people the I have happily come to know and to respect their dedication to serve. As donations have fallen, it has become more of a challage to meet the needs of providing a meal for 150-200 guests at the Table. My Brother's Table has and continues to manage to be a provider for the increasing number of needy guests.

I have been involved as a volunteer and donor for years. Many of us from Nynex used to serve there when it was on Union St. It was a wonderful experience. The directors through the years are so dedicated. The guests are made to feel very welcomed. And, at Christmas we used to wrap new sweaters, socks, mittens and scarves and each gusest got four gifts.

My Brother's Table is an amazing organization and the Charity of our choice. It provides a welcoming place for the many people who would go hungry without it. It also provides all types of services for the guests.

As co-coordinator of the Star of the Sea "meatloaf night" I was at the Table every other month for about 20 years, serving the food made by our 20+ cooks. More recently, my husband and I have only cooked the food at home and have discontinued serving. It was wonderful to see the many people helped each night and to accept their thanks for making their days a little easier. It was a wonderful experience and continues to be so.

Guests and volunteers enjoy a warm family relationship that is very heart warming. I look forward to volunteering. MBT has a long history serving those in need in the Lynn community, and constantly provides excellent meals 365 days per year.

I've been volunteering at MBT for years. My 3 children love to help out in the kitchen and serving the clients. It is a great activity that makes one and all feel good.
