Museum Of Sonoma County

Programs: The museums of sonoma county consists of two museums. The art museum presents an active program of changing exhibitions with an emphasis on modern and contemporary art. Exhibitions are developed from the museum's art collection, from artists, collectors, and galleries, and also from traveling exhibit services. The history museum presents regional history exhibits drawn from the museum's collections and through it's affiliation with the smithsonian institute. The museum's sculpture garden features sculptures by northern california artists.

open over 300 days a year, the museums of sonoma county serve over 25,000 visitors each year, including more than 3,000 school children who come for the museum's free school tour and bus reimbursement grants. Through ongoing lectures, gallery talks, classes, workshops, and family days, the museum acts as a community gathering place. These public programs are offered on a weekly basis throughout the year, and most are low-cost or free to museum members.

Currently the collection features over 20,000 items including works by artists christo and jeanne claude, a collection of 19th century california landscapes paintings, and many other art and historical pieces.
