Mission: The museum of northern california art (monca) was founded in 2011 with the mission of making art accessible and promoting awareness of northern california artists through collections, exhibitions and educational programs. The museum's vision is to be a vehicle for communities in the region to experience and create art for the sake of enjoyment, expression, social cohesion, innovation and communication. The museum will improve public perception of art by creating vital educational programs that inspire enthusiasm and increase the quality of life for artists, art enthusiasts and the public at large.
Programs: Permanent collection and special thematic exhibitions. On july 13, 2017, monca cut the ribbon and opened its doors to the public. Under an arrangement with the butte county board of supervisors, monca's home is the 1927 veterans memorial hall, built on the historic site of john bidwell's 1800s hay warehouse. Selections from the reed applegate collection are on view throughout the year, with special thematic exhibitions in 2017 including affinity. Monca's lobby hosts a permanent installation dedicated to the history of the veterans memorial hall and the veterans' community in the region.
