Programs: Mcasb advances creativity and inspires critical thinking through meaningful engagement with the art of our time. Recent strategic development has strengthened the impact of art education programming we offer and expanded our programs to reach regional inclined and diverse audiences. Mcasb is the leading contemporary arts museum on the central coast of california, spanning the ventura, santa barbara, and san luis obispo counties, with a continued record of support and exposure for experimental, cutting-edge art of our time via 8-12 exhibitions annually, exhibition catalogs and brochures acting as scholarly contributions to the field, and 30+ public programs and performances, including the on edge performance art festival. A longstanding west coast anchor for creative expression mcasb is the only non-collecting contemporary arts museum between los angeles and the bay area, and charges no admission fee. Oriented to expand and deepen the ways in which people experience the art of our time through a slate of offerings that emphasize empowerment, innovative thinking, and lifelong appreciation for the humanities, we create accessible opportunities for audiences to move away from solely one-way passive spectatorship to also include two-way active arts participation that allows for various impactful, personal, and resonant experiences with the arts. Community arts engagement programs provide interaction with living artists inside and outside the walls of the museum so the arts live where communities live. Mcasb's art study tours are curated luxury art travel to important international, cultural destinations in support of our mission to cultivate audiences for contemporary art. Participants visit artists studios, exclusive private art collections, and art fairs around the world. The 2014 - 2015 tours traveled to los angeles; mexico city; venice, italy: and basil, switzerland.
