Mission: Mt. Baker planned parenthood's mission is to provide, promote and protect access to reproductive health care and sexuality education empowering each person to make informed personal choices.
Programs: Medical services: mt. Baker planned parenthood (mbpp) provides comprehensive reproductive health care for women and men. Services include birth control method counseling services and supplies; pregnancy testing and option counseling, first-trimester abortion care, education, and support; referrals for prenatal care, parenting, adoption; annual checkups, cancer screening, breast and pelvic exams; testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases; colposcopy and leep services; vasectomy and post-vasectomy exams and testing and health education. Mt. Baker planned parenthood provided 14,425 preventive and essential medical services to 9,098 clients. In 2017, our health centers provided 16,376 sti screening tests, 3,225 pregnancy tests and 1,838 cancer screening and prevention visits. 21% of mbpp clients received services at no charge or were charged a partial fee based on their level of income and family size. The percentage of mbpp clients who reported being medicaid registered was 35%.
community education: mt. Baker planned parenthood (mbpp) offers educational programs free to public schools and other social service agencies. Our health educators are dedicated to providing quality programs and frequently work closely with teachers and program coordinators to design presentations that are customized to a specific classroom or group. In 2017, our educators offered 468 educational programs that reached 5,288 participants.
community relations: the community relations department provides information, support, and training that helps mt. Baker planned parenthood supporters influence public policy and legislative processes. Mbpp works with local, state, and national officials and through public-information and grassroots organizing to make sure that reproductive health care is recognized as a basic and fundamental health-care service; improve access to family planning services; improve the availability and accuracy of sexuality education in public schools; keep abortion safe and legal; and reduce teen pregnancy ratesthe program fulfills this work in three specific areas:(1) media/pr: the goal of the program is to submit periodic letters to the editor to increase awareness and support for its issues. An active relationship with local media also entails periodic press releases about issues and events pertinent to mbpp. Mbpp also engages in increasing activist participation through social media sites. (2) activists/volunteers: the program seeks to foster an active relationship with its volunteers and community activists as well as to expand the database. Mbpp has 126 active volunteers. (3) legislative/policy: mbpp maintains an active relationship with state and federal legislators. The community relations department is responsible for keeping abreast of and dispersing information about relevant state and national policy. The program encourages and fosters activist outreach to local and federal legislators.
