Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Health, Health Support

Mission: We do three very distinct things: 1. When perfectly good medical and mobility equipment is no longer needed people have a hard time figuring out what to do with it. They want to put to some good use; but don't know where to turn. We happily take it from them as a donation that will go to a worth cause. 2. We refurbish the equipment and make it available to anyone at a very reasonable "suggested minimum donation" amount. Many of the items we offer go out the door for what others charge per month. 3. And finally, what we take in above our expenses is made available for those with MS who are experiencing financial difficulty.

Results: We have helped thousands since 1999 and saved hundreds with MS in their hour of peril.

Target demographics: Providing more affordable Medical and Mobility equipment for people with all disabilities. And what we take in above our expenses we give out as Financial Aid to those with MS in the Northwest.

Direct beneficiaries per year: We partnered with the NMSS to help dozens of people with MS who were in serious financial straits.

Geographic areas served: Washington State

Programs: When perfectly good medical and mobility equipment is no longer needed people donate it to us. We are 100% volunteer run. We refurbish the equipment and make it available for a "suggested minimum donation" amount that is far more reasonable - especially for those with limited resources. What we take in above our expenses is made available to those with MS experiencing financial difficulties. This is done in partnership with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society,

I have MS. I can walk, I can stand, I just can't do either one for very long. I have 5 children and we live on 5 acres. This last summer I was almost home bound in our small trailer. I would watch my kids through the window playing with the animals or exploring the trees, but I couldn't go with them, it was just too far to walk. I knew how wonderful it would be to have an all terrain scooter, but there's no money for that we can barely pay our bills. I didn't think there was any help for something like that and honestly I felt selfish to even ask. I mean I can walk so how could I ask for a scooter just so I could get outside around our place and make memories with my kids. Finally in August after my 7 year old had come in to ask again "mommy can't you come outside with us, I'll help you if you fall down", I called MS helping hands. By that day was over I got a call that they had an all terrain scooter that was for me. I said I have no money to give. They said there was no charge...Now I'm going on regular "walks" with my kids, my goats and dogs are so happy to see me again, my depression that I fought so hard to hide is gone, and when my 7 year old asks me to come outside and see what he has discovered I say "lets go!" I thank God for MS Helping Hands!

I was in a real fix. I have MS and rely on a power wheelchair to get aroubd. Usually I have a backup in case my primary stops working. But I didn't have a backup this time nor did I have the money to go out and get a chair. The ALL VOLUNTEER staff at MS Helping Hands helped get me mobile again. They have an excellent inventory and the staff was terrific!

I was in a rather rough spot. I have MS and require a wheelchair to get around. I usually have a backup in case my primary goes out. However, this time I didn't have one. Insurance was going to take from 1 to 2 months and I didn't have the money to go out and buy one right out. MS Helping Hands had a huge inventory and a very knowledgable, ALL VOLUNTEER staff that was very helpful. They saved my life -literally -that day. I recommend MS Helping Hands to everyone. What a GREAT organization!!

It is a great experience to volunteer at MS Helping Hands-MSHH. It is a great feeling to be able to assist people with their equipment and when possible financial needs
