Moving in the Spirit is an Atlanta gem and a national treasure! I hope more people learn about the outstanding youth development using the power of movement happening right here in our “ backyard.” I always create such rich memories as a volunteer, whether I’m serving at the annual holiday store or one of their performances. One of a kind organization to support as a donor and volunteer; I’ve never seen it’s equal.
As a parent of a 12-year-old dancer in the Moving in the Spirit program, I wanted to share our experience to help others understand the profound impact this non-profit dance initiative has had on my daughter.
From the very first class, it was evident that Moving in the Spirit is about more than just dance; it’s a holistic program that nurtures creativity, confidence, and community. My daughter was immediately welcomed into a warm and inclusive environment where she felt safe to express herself. This sense of belonging has been essential for her development, especially during these formative years.
The instructors are passionate and skilled, bringing an abundance of experience and enthusiasm to their teaching. They not only focus on dance technique but also emphasize storytelling through movement. This approach has allowed my daughter to connect emotionally with her performances, making each class a meaningful experience. She has learned various styles, including jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary, which has broadened her appreciation for dance as an art form.
One of the standout features of the program is its focus on personal growth. My daughter has gained so
I am very grateful that my daughter can continue her ballet studies and more, it really is a beautiful place, full of life, music, harmony and progress.
It is in harmony with the spirit, thank you for this wonderful opportunity and experience.
We love it.
First year of dance for my daughter and I was worried about her starting dance bc of stories about negative influence of dance culture on self esteem and someone recommended Moving in the Spirit and we couldn’t be happier! The holiday store was an unexpected perk. Will definitely be signing up for next year
My daughter has been dancing with Moving In the Spirit since the pandemic. They are a great place for your kid to feel welcomed, appreciated, and learn to dance. The skills, techniques, and balance that she has achieved while taking classes will forever be positive in her life. I can’t thank the staff and teachers enough for imparting life skills and confidence in her. Thank you.
My daughter has been dancing at Moving in the Spirit for 2 years and she loves it. The organization is absolutely amazing and has been operating in Atlanta for 38 years! They are located in our neighborhood and their faciliites are beautiful. They offer so much more than dance and we are grateful for Moving in the Spirit. One of my daughter's favorite things about Moving in the Spirit is the Holiday Store. The students earn points throughout the year to redeem gifts in the store for their friends and family and themselves. It is a heartwarming and wonderful event. Thank you, Moving in the Spirit!
We love how this organization is so involved in our community with our kids. As a single mother I feel very much supported with my child and not have to worry. I want to be able to keep my child in this program and some day she can come back and show support back to them in her own way.
Moving In The Spirit is an incredible place! I can't stop raving about the organization to friends, family, neighbors -- anyone who will listen. :)
Their mission, using dance to teach kids the emotional, social and cognitive skills needed to grow and thrive, is evident in every aspect. Each person from MITS our family has come into contact with has been kind, warm, and patient, while also outlining clear expectations and holding students accountable as appropriate for their age level. The mix of people that form this community makes my heart smile, and I'm grateful our family can be a small part of it.
The skills MITS imparts to its students no doubt carry through with them as they grow into proper adults -- whether they are dancing professionally, or simply carrying with them the positive messages and expectations learned at this fabulous organization.
What an amazing organization! Not only does it have a positive impact on our community, it positively affected my family in any ways!
