Having been a longtime supporter of Mountain Roots Food Project, I've got to say, the impact this nonprofit has made on the Gunnison community is incredible.
The folks at Mountain Root are dedicated to tackling food insecurity and championing sustainable food systems. They've rolled out a whole bunch of programs and projects that have made sure that fresh, locally grown food is accessible to folks who need it, helping them lead healthier lives.

The Mountain Roots team is doing incredibly valuable work in building a nourishing, regenerative and resilient food system in the Gunnison Valley.
Their impact and reach is comprehensive, starting with serving our youngest population with farm to school education in local schools, nature based summer camps, classes for families on affordable and nutritious cooking, a CSA with beautiful local crops for the community, year round Backyard Harvest boxes for over 100 families in need, beginning farmer training, and much more.
The community farms provide meaningful opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to take a more active role in their food system and connect with others who value healthy connections between food, earth and community.
There are few organizations that we donate to that are truly empathetic and effective helping those who are marginalized. Mountain Roots works tirelessly to provide fresh and healthy nourishment and a helping hand to those who need it most. A true shining star in the world of difference-making non-profits! It all starts with their leadership. Holly is a tremendous leader driving huge results for the VERY remote Gunnison Valley. Mountain Roots is tackling food insecurity head on and doing it the right way with local partnerships and championing healthy local produce.
The Mountain Roots Food Project has been providing much needed food security and educational services in the Gunnison Valley for over a decade. Holly, the organization Director, has been a leading force in the food security space in Colorado for years which enabled the organization to pivot to meet the growing needs of the community through the pandemic and going forward.
As a supporter, I know my donations will go directly towards delivering on the needs of the community, I encourage others to donate.
What an honor it is to support a non profit organization that serves a community in so many meaningful ways! It’s natural for our family to assist people with food insecurity and the added bonus that Mountain Roots cares about nutritious food makes me smile! I appreciate the farm to school programs which provide wonderful education opportunities for students of all ages. And, the partnership with community members and farmers with the regenerative farming program is a win win for all involved. I loved the time I spent volunteering in the garden with my preschool granddaughter as both of us learned about vegetable gardening, served the community and had fun meeting new friends!
Mountain Roots is such an amazing organization. I first discovered them several years ago after reading in the local paper about a parnership between them and another oganization aimed at creating a community farm based in reginerative agriculture practices on conserved land.
I volunteered on the new farm and learned just how far reaching and impactful Mountain Roots is in our community. They provide nutrition and evironmental education in our public schools and during summer camps using their community gardens and local farms, train future farmers on reginerative agriculture practices, and help to feed more than 100 families in need using locally raised, fresh produce and meats.
