Mother and Unborn Baby Care of Long Island Inc provides a loving and welcoming haven that is second to none. The enormous decision to end a pregnancy in most cases by far stems from the mother's fear of poverty, rejection and an inability to care for her coming child. This nonprofit offers every conceivable way to assist in the survival of the child AND the mother, either by enabling the mother to care for her child, or facilitating the gift of adoption. The message loud and clear is that life and love truly matter.
I have supported The Life Center of Long Island for many years and will continue to do so because I am very passionate about what they do: promote, encourage, and foster public sentiment and respect for the dignity of human life, from conception to natural death.

This organization has been diligent and responsible in dealing with financial challenges that the majority of pregnancy care centers are feeling throughout the country. As you can see with some of these reviews there are a few sour grapes along with irresponsible and degrading comments which happens when lay offs are necessary. A few lost their vision and mission for the work that is done and placed their trust in a few people instead of the clients that are helped over and over again as you can see from the majority of the reviews.
Moms and babies are continuing to be provided with substancial material aid that is not only materially donated but given through very generous monetary donations and also generous secured grants.
Pruning is now bringing about necessary changes that are allowing this company to flourish in a healthy financial stable environment. This organization is run by only 18 staff members, most part -time, and over 125 volunteers! An amazing feat!
I have worked with this organization for over 10 years as a volunteer. It is a sensitive, caring, helpful place, mindful of each client's need for compassion and confidentiality. Any concern or need, not including medical, will be met with advice, educational information , references, and material aid, to name a few. Well planned and thoughtful solutions for the most pressing of circumstances are provided for each individual according to their need. It is a friendly, open and much needed haven for anyone who needs help and support during those critical times in ones life.

I have been a volunteer at this org. for over 9 years and I am always amazed at how it grows and develops and matures each year into such a caring, efficient, warm and welcoming org. All who come here are nurtured in the spirit of friendship and concern. Our mission is to serve the needs of our clients with dignity and privacy, while imparting knowledge and information, helping them make crucial decisions in their lives. These very decisions can shape their future in positive ways maintaining a healthy body, spirit, mind. I am so happy to be part of this mission. Rose
I am happy to be associated with this organization. They are truly doing work that benefits the local community. Clients are supplied with needs at no cost, after a consultation. There are some who may complain about the emphasis on fundraising, but as a non-profit, that is how they are able to sustain their centers. They receive no money from the government. All the people that I have met through this organization are wonderful and caring. It is so nice to be surrounded by such good people.
I can no longer support this organization. I do believe their mission has merit but it has to be one of the more poorly managed non profits that I have supported. It took 3 years of financial losses to generate a reaction. And that is all it appears to be - a reaction. It doesn't appear that there is a plan in place to address the real issues. Sure they closed a remote location which may save some money but it also limits their ability to reach the women who need them. The issues don't appear to be with the services they offer, the issues appear to be more with the administrative costs. DONORS DO YOUR RESEARCH - very little of your monetary donations go to women in need. More that 50% of your monetary donations are paying administrative salaries!!
While the worthy work of this organization is helping women in need;
Donor BEWARE...not as transparent as they seem.
Organization is now in a significant amount of debt (over $150,000)
Extremely top heavy in administrative expenses, your money does not necessarily go to the women in need but rather to salaries of select few, and now...their created debt.
Questionable Restructuring, recent closure of one center and several Board members suddenly leaving the organization, leave further question of their sustainability, and work ethics.
IF after reading this you still want to contribute to their cause; consider Material aid donation to one of the three remaining centers for needed baby items for the clients. (Diapers/Car Seats/Cribs/Pack and Plays/Baby clothes)
This way you know where your money is going.
Review from Guidestar
I know someone who was pregnant and had no where to live. She went to Mother and Unborn Baby Care of Long Island and they helped her to get into a maternity home. While she was in the maternity she continued to attend school and today has graduated and Is going to a Community College.
An organization that is 100% dedicated to helping women of all ages at their most vulnerable. Everyone is welcome and respected, and they go out of their way to ensure the most positive outcomes possible for all of their clients.
I've seen first hand that women facing a challenging pregnancy receive the loving care and practical support they need here.
The Life Center of Long Island is a real treasure. Women of all religions or none at all, are welcomed with respect and love. The threats of poverty and estrangement are often at the root of the decision to end a pregnancy - the Center answers those needs resoundingly. Medical care, baby supplies, mentoring, adoption options, counseling, and even simple friendship and more are made available in the quest of saving human life. You simply cannot find a better agency of this kind in this region.
SOS! What is going on? This appears to be an organization in turmoil! I have supported this organization in the past because my spouse is a volunteer. Lately the management team seems only interested in how much money a volunteer can contribute or bring in. A volunteers time, effort and opinion are no longer valued. Shame on the Board of Directors and Management - your volunteers are the backbone of your organization!
Very attentive to my needs. Willing to listen to my situation. Very calming atmosphere. Everyone was so nice.
I had wanted to continue my Mother's legacy of giving. Now, I am concerned that I was not more involved in her decisions as to what causes she supported. While the goals of the organization are worthy I have serious reservations about the transparency of the management. The gold standard for most non profits is to have a Board of Directors void of any employees. This is not the case with this non profit. Not only does the Board contain an employee; it is the same person who led the organization for 30 years. The organization wants us to believe that it is OK because the individual is a "non voting" Board member. An employee that led the organization for 30 years, is still an active employee and participates in Board meetings has to have some influence on decisions whether voting or not!! Can the organization not find members to fill their Board that are not employed by them??
I have known of this wonderful organization for 29 years now. Any time I have gone there to drop off donations or to pick up informative pamphlets from them, I am thoroughly impressed with their friendly and dedicated volunteer staff. These people are completely committed to helping others through stressful times in their life. God bless these wonderful people!
I began volunteering at Mother and Unborn Babycare of Long Island Inc. over 20 years ago. From the first day forward, I have seen the most wonderful things happen. All of the volunteers have a heart for the unborn child in the womb as well as the child who is born and needs our lovely baby items as well as other furnishings. When a new mother comes to us and is concerned about baby items, housing, healthcare, etc. we provide many resources. In other words we take her under our wing and walk the walk with her. It is by far one of the most rewarding and fulfilling time spent. It is truly a Great Non Profit!
I have been a volunteer at the Life Center for 6 years. The Life Center is a great organization! Over the years, they have helped so many women with baby items, such as clothing, diapers, food etc. They also provide free pregnancy tests. They offer many resources to the men and women they counsel. The staff and volunteers I work with are so friendly, caring and supportive. They treat all clients with kindness and respect. The Life Center provides genuine assistance to women in need. I am so happy to be part of this wonderful organization.
After reading in a Church bulletin 2 1/2 yrs ago about the need for baby clothes donations at
the Life Center, I decided to find out how I could help. I am a volunteer at the Center in Deer Park and know first hand about the need of Moms who come here and the loving, caring help they all receive at the Center. Every woman coming in for help is given assistance, free, no questions asked. They turn to the Life Center to guide them through this difficult time for them and their unborn baby. Donations made to the Center (Mom and Unborn Baby Care of
L.I.) directly helps Moms and babies every day!
Mother and Unborn Baby Care is a wonderful organization that reaches out to women, men, and children in the community. Offering an empathic and caring environment, they try to meet the needs of those who come to them for assistance. Their services are varied, confidential, and free. The dedicated staff and volunteers provide not only an uplifting and genuine atmosphere, but treat each person with respect and dignity. This agency stands above the rest that provide similar services.
I am a volunteer and helped a lot of clients during over 10 years and it is the best place that I have ever been associated with
I am a new volunteer at the Life Center
The men and women I have been working with are so empathetic and passionate in helping people . The center is run professionally, with an appreciation for everyone and everything that comes through our doors.
I am very happy to have found my way here.
I have been a volunteer of the Massapequa Life Center for over two years and I’ve never worked with such caring, dedicated staff and couselors who work with our clients with unconditional understanding. I have learned about women’s various needs with different backgrounds and can see how confused and sometimes undecided they are. That is where we come in to give them the guidance, the options, and the awaress that their decision is life changing. Hopefully with prayer and proper guidance they will make the right choice and keep their baby!
I am currently a volunteer at the Life Center of Long Island. This organization is wonderful in that it helps men and women deal with unexpected pregnancy. They help not only with medical care, clothing, food, and housing, but also provide emotional and psychological support. Totally nonjudgmental, they welcome all who walk through their doors.
This is the best organization ever! No one is every charged a penny for anything whatsoever, in spite of how much time is spent with each client or what their need is. Young moms in crisis pregnancies are given the truth they need to choose life, whether that means raising their own child or making an adoption plan. Handmade baby blankets, diapers, maternity clothes, baby clothes are sorted and given to moms, as well as car seats, cribs, strollers, etc.
Currently I am a volunteer at the Life Center of Long Island & I find their goal as a non profit organization to be extremely rewarding.
I'd been looking for a pro-life cause to which to donate for a long time, but I wanted an organization that was helping both women who were facing unexpected pregnancies, as well as women who had already had their babies and needed material assistance. The Life Center does both exceptionally well. Their volunteers are so compassionate, and the good they do for new mothers who need diapers or cribs or pretty much anything is truly humbling.
Life Center of Long Island for over 30 years has been a strength to the communities. Women and men can get support as they tell their story, The Life Center offers researched based resources for emotional, psychological and financial assistance for the persons making the decisions about their troubled pregnancy. Having spoken to administrators, counselors and volunteers each and everyone is kind , caring and supportive.
I donate to this wonderful organization and am happy to do so knowing the way they support women/teens faced with and unplanned pregnancies to choose life, not abortion. They support the woman throughout her pregnancy and after. I have gotten to know many of the volunteers and they have hearts filled with compassion and love.
My involvement started simply enough: i picked up infant furniture, baby food, etc. donated by generous and loving people. i transported the items to the Life Center of LI(LC) in Hempstead. The staff and volunteers were equally warm and loving. As a person who is frequently cynical about human nature, these experiences rekindled my faith in people.
It became obvious that the vast majority of clients lacked the economic resources to purchase baby items. The LC provides the needed baby items and counseling that actually gave these women and men a real choice on whether or not to have their babies. It is a wonderful feeling to be part of an organization that saves lives!
I HAVE BEEN A VOLUNTEER FOR THE LIFE CENTER FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. I WISH THAT I HAD KNOWN ABOUT THEM 10 YEARS AGO. I MIGHT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAVE A YOUNG GIRL WE KNEW FROM ABORTING HER BABY. SHE HAS SINCE MOVED TO ANOTHER STATE AND WE DO NOT KNOW WHERE SHE IS. SHE WAS THREATENED BY HER MOTHER NOT TO TELL HER FATHER, BUT TO ABORT HER BABY. WE OFFERED HER PLACE TO STAY, BUT SHE WAS AFRAID THAT HER FATHER WOULD FIND OUT ABOUT HER. THE COUNSELORS AT THE LIFE CENTER ARE SOME OF THE MOST WONDERFUL PEOPLE I HAVE MET. THEY HAVE HELPED SO MANY YOUNG MOTHERS WHO HAD NO WHERE TO GO. THE LIFE CENTER IS TRULY A LOVING ENVIRONMENT FOR THESE MOTHERS AND HELPS THEM IN SO MANY WAYS -- MEDICAL CARE, CLOTHES, FOOD, JOB, A PLACE TO LIVE AND FOLLOWS THRU WITH THEM EVEN AFTER THEIR BABY IS BORN WITH ALL THE NEEDS AND SUPPLIES AND LOVE THEY NEED. GOD BLESS THE LIFE CENTER OF LI.
Having been a donor for over 10 years, and a volunteer for over 6 years, I have seen firsthand the work done by this organization. It treats all of its clients and potential clients with kindness, personal care and involvement and love. All are treated as we would want to be treated in the same circumstances. The counselors, staff and volunteers go out of their way to be of the best assistance and care that can be reasonably provided. These people know and practice the true meaning of sisterhood and brotherhood to all who seek their help and guidance.
Life Center of Long Island is a wonderful nonprofit to which I have been a donor and supporter for many years. I know any material goods or monetary donations I have been able to give have been/ will be put to good use. This wonderful nonprofit , through their loving generosity, hard work and vision, have been able to make every resource available to them go a long way to help mothers and babies. I hold the Life Center of Long Island in highest regard.
In 1972 I had an abortion . I discovered this wonderful organization after 43 years of pain from that horrible decision, Roe v Wade had just been passed and I went to Planned Parenthood for advice. They only offered abortion and birth control. I was lied to and told there was no baby! just a clump of cells. All lies. Had I but known what I was doing to a child I would NEVER have proceeded with an abortion. 43 yrs I was depressed and in horrible pain over the life I stole from my own child. I could not find forgiveness for myself even though I had confessed to God my sin. Through Project Rachael, a program this organization participates in, I found love, peace, understanding and no judgement. I found healing. They serve all people regardless of faith, race or nationality. They offer a Spanish version as well. After this experience I learned of the work they do to help women to avoid the horror of abortion. The counseling they provide, the clothing from age NB through age 4 , carriages, cribs, sheets, blankets, anything a baby needs, the medical care they find for you, the continuing support they give to the mother and then the child they bear. They are by far the most compassionate and beautiful people I have ever met. They do all this only by the donations received. If you are Catholic they also have a baby bottle campaign that asks you to put your spare change into. I always take two bottles and feel better that I am helping hem in their mission. I signed up to become a monthly donor, any amount will be graciously received and I collect and shop for the supplies new mothers will need when I can afford too. I ask anyone reading this to please try to collect any baby clothing or accessories. I pray that more people will feel the call to donate to them. As long as I live I will proclaim to the world how great this NON-PROFIT organization is. I am so grateful to them for being there. They saved me.
As a volunteer at this facility for over 9 years, I have been able to witness, first hand, their caring, compassionate, and welcoming presence put into practice, free of charge. Clients who come here receive beneficial, positive information which promotes confidence and self-esteem in their decision making. No matter what the problem, each client is seen objectively, with care and consideration for all their individual needs. Goods and services, (ie. clothing, strollers, formula, etc.) when needed, are also provided free of charge.
