Mission: Celebrating creativity in the arts, sciences and theatre, the morris museum's mission is to educate, excite, and entertain children and families through thought provoking exhibitions, stimulating education programs, exciting family events, and exhilarating live theatre.
Programs: Founded in 1913, the morris museum is one of new jersey's oldest and most dynamic cultural centers. Its ever-changing exhibition schedule draws inspiration from its permanent collection of more than 40,000 objects that includes fine arts, cutting edge crafts, historic costumes, geology, paleontology, and popular culture. Serving more than 440,000 children and adults annually, the museum's role as a teaching institution is evident in the extensive onsite field trip experiences and outreach programs in the arts and sciences offered to students from throughout the state, and the popular museum loan department that lends more than 1,400 portable exhibits to schools, libraries and community centers. The museum's comprehensive, year round schedule of education programs includes art talk tours, studio art courses, super science saturdays, tea and treasures from the vault, the lunch & learn series, school vacation workshops, summer camp-for-a-day, and guided gallery programs. Themed festivals entertain and thrill families on topics ranging from dinosaurs to dr. Seuss. Even the youngest member of the family is welcomed to the museum with monthly tot tours. Expanded visitor amenities and services are designed to serve and engage visitors of all ages, interests, and abilities. The open and friendly atmosphere of the museum encourages visitors to linger, to explore, to create, and to learn.
the only museum in the state with a professional theatre, the museum's bickford theatre serves 20,000 patrons with an exciting main stage series, consisting of drama, comedies, thrillers and musicals; a children's theatre series that presents more than 25 performances each year, a jazz concert series of more than 24 concerts, and expanded programming with classical music concerts to introduce young children to live orchestra performances.
