Over all this is an amazing facility! The staff truly cares about the animals. It’s a very clean environment. The employees and volunteers are friendly and helpful. Including those who do community service.
If you are looking for a pet this is the place for you! If you are looking to volunteer this is the place for you! If you are looking to do *community service, this may not be the place for you.
I’ve had numerous horrible encounters with the person in charge of community service. They can be condescending, rude, and terrifying. They have unapologetically and without reason, made me cry on several different occasions.
There are tons of positive reviews about this shelter as a whole, and that is well deserved! But for someone checking this page out to find a nice nonprofit to do their community service with, proceed with thick skin and caution. I feel that it needs to be said.
I chose this nonprofit because it is near and dear to my heart. As a customer and volunteer I have been so very pleased! As a community service worker I have been severely let down. I hope this was helpful.
Please adopt all of the sweet dogs and cats!! And DONATE DONATE DONATE!!!
*community service described here is related to court mandated community service.
Love the Montgomery (AL) Humane Shelter! Compassionate employees and devoted volunteers. Creative attempts to increase adoptions.
Having volunteered with MHS for 3 years, I can’t say enough about both staff and volunteers. Staff is always courteous to volunteers and visitors and answer questions as best they can. Watching them interact with animals lets you know they enjoy their work and having worked with nonprofits before , you don’t do it for the money.
We have a great group of volunteers who assist in many areas of need, from washing towels and dogs; working off site adoptions; taking a puppy to puppy therapy; and helping with fundraisers. The volunteer coordinator can put out a text for immediate help with something and before long, she has the help she needs.
I have only been volunteering with the program for a short time, but have been an active friend to the community at large. No matter where you may to turn your family and friends will truly enjoy being apart of the family. Now matter your experience with animals or people you will feel right at home, loved and cared for. You will always be greeted with a member smile and laughter while fighting back happy tears when a smiling face meets his or her new family. You are able to find a caring friend(s) always. We look forward to speaking with you soon. You will enjoy the travel and traveling with your new found friends.
Come on over to meet the friendly professional personnel, that awaits you and your family. Happy Harvest to you from your pals here.
I found a dog and her 7 pups in the freezing rain around Thanksgiving. I took all of them home but already have a dog and cat and could not keep them. I has the Humane Society pick them up. Another volunteer kept them all until they were weaned. I was able to help raise money for the mom's heart worm treatment and keep her again while she recovered. Eventually the mom got adopted and while volunteering another day I got to meet the couple who adopted her. I am so grateful for the Montgomery Humane Society without whom these wonderful animals would have perished.
WE love our local MONTGOMERY shelter!! We started out going when my daughter was 8. It was a treat for good grades and chores completed. We quickly realized there is so much more to it than just a fun outing. We started volunteering when she was 10 and now, at 13 years old, she and her best friend regularly socialize kitties, clean cages, talk to potential adopters and walk dogs.
Volunteering here is always rewarding because the animals are so well cared for. Dogs are walked regularly, cats have their own wing of the building where they take turns roaming and climbing and sleeping in the window sills. The cages are cleaned regularly and the Shelter workers honestly love and get attached to the animals. They know them by name and go to great lengths to keep them happy, safe, and bathed so that they maximize their likelihood of finding a forever family.
We are so proud to get the word out that our shelter is so much more than a nonprofit...it’s an asset to our community and a safe haven for animals and the people who need a little “animal therapy” themselves!
The Montgomery Humane Society provides care and love for every animal they can. They do this through the attention and dedication of the staff and volunteers. The services they provide are done at a very low cost to the public. All of the revenue generated is put right back into the care of the animals and the facilities. Most of the time the staff does as much on their own time with their own money as they do while on the clock. The biggest reward they see is the smile on a new adopter’s face when they find the new fur-baby & complete their family.
I am a volunteer here and I love it! There is always so much to do and the staff here are so loving. I volunteer as much as I can because it’s such a positive environment to see the animals being taken such great care of. This shelter is like a big family. Everyone gets along so great and we have so much involvement with the community. I recommend people all the time to get animals from here.
This is the best shelter in Alabama. They are strongly invested in helping the dogs and cats find good homes. The volunteers are friendly and dedicated, and the animals are very well taken care of. The volunteer coordinator, Cindy, is fantastic- dedicated, hard-working, and conscientious. I would recommend MHS to anyone looking to adopt a furry friend!
