MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL

Programs: Monterey jazz festival: the nonprofit monterey jazz festival is the longest continuously-running jazz festival in the world, and has presented nearly every major jazz artist every year since its inception in 1958. Held annually on the 20-acre monterey county fairgrounds, the festival is considered an international icon and model for all subsequent multi-stage music festivals. Five-hundred top jazz artists perform throughout the weekend on eight stages over three days and two nights each third full weekend in september. Every year, through its marketing and promotional efforts, the festival gathers over 60 million impressions in local, national, and international print and digital media outlets; on the ground, and through its web site.

jazz education programs: monterey jazz festival funds, facilitates, and presents innovative and inclusive year-round local, regional, national, and international jazz education programs. Schools in monterey county and thousands of students benefit from the festivals in-school teaching program, the traveling clinicians, during the academic year, with performance opportunities and tours for both local and national high school students across the country and abroad. In addition, top-flight jazz educators and student musicians are brought to monterey each year to participate in the 44-year-old next generation jazz festival and summer jazz camp. Top student bands are invited back to perform at the monterey jazz festival in september, as does the festivals national high school honor band, the next generation jazz orchestra. The educational efforts of the festival reach approximately 60,000 people annually through its education programs. Nearly 250,000 plays are heard by online users annually through the festivals digital music education project on soundcloud, a web-based jazz education initiative.
