Each time we visit family in the Monroe area, we visit the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts. The Center is located in one of the historic buildings in downtown Monroe and houses a wide variety of art and crafts by local artists. It is enjoyable to walk through the attractive displays and find a piece of art , jewelry , or pottery to purchase for ourselves or as a gift. I am very impressed by the Center's many activities and classes geared to all ages and abilities. The Center is an excellent resource for the arts and provides many opportunities for community involvement.
I love spending time at the Art Center! When I moved to Monroe over a year ago I learned there was a current Fiber Arts exhibit at an arts center in town. I visited the center and fell in love with it. Everyone there is warm and welcoming, so many exhibits throughout the year, many classes to choose from and lots of talent from local artists displayed at the gift shop. My passion is fiber arts but I hope to take advantage of their classes to enjoy other art forms. Monroe is lucky to have this center!
This is a great outlet for local artists. The classes and instructors are fantastic. They are so fun to be in. The volunteers are first class! Love the focus on children in the county. Many talents are shared with the community.
Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Monroe, Georgia is a haven for artists, art enthusiasts, and those looking for that one-of-a-kind special something. Emerging and professional local artisans alike showcase their work in this fantastic space. As an out-of-towner from a city known for its art, to say that I was highly impressed with both the quality and variety of mediums represented in the exhibition is an understatement. In fact, I was so moved by the passion and talent on display that I simply had to purchase one of the gorgeous oil paintings for my NC home. And, as an art appreciator, it was my joy to become a MWCA member. I can think of no better way to encourage visual arts in the local community than financially supporting those creative endeavors. I look forward to a return visit soon!
I was visiting Monroe, Georgia and was exited to visit the art center and am glad I did! I had a wonderful experience. All of the staff was so friendly there were several classes going on thru the day. They had some beautiful hand made jewelry and clay pieces. I would put the art center on my top suggestion of places to visit when in the area.
It is my favorite place to go when I want to treat myself! Whether I need a gift or just want to kill time looking at original art and crafts. The classes are also interesting and everyone is helpful and friendly!
Hands down one of the best community art centers I've ever been involved with. What a gem in rural north-east Georgia!!! Monroe has a heart for creative types and businesses - the MWCA is a cultural hub for the creative community and beyond!
I was looking for a place to reconnect with Monroe after being away for several years. Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts was that place for me. I started attending Walton Writer's and branched out into volunteering at the center. The center offers classes for both adults and children at the beginner and advance levels or anywhere in between. I am definitely a beginner and have been welcomed with open arms. The soiree's are a great community builder that provide an opportunity to try one's hand at multiple art forms. I purchased several of the pottery kits during this pandemic which provided much needed entertainment. MWCA serves the community gladly and makes everyone welcome.
Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts is one of the elements that make Monroe, GA and Walton County great places to live and visit. Many visitors are amazed at the vibrant art community MWCA has created in a town our size. MWCA provides a place to see, learn, sell, and purchase unique art and writing and engages in outreach programs serving the surrounding community. Art activity boxes, created by volunteers and funded by the community, are distributed to fire stations, hospitals, and foster care agencies to occupy and calm children and teens in times of stress, and many classes focus on students with special needs. I am delighted to be part of an organization with such a cooperative spirit.
I love this place! As a member, I have found an outlet for my creativity in photography and acrylic paintings, I have entered numerous art shows, and I’ve sold some of my work. It’s a great feeling walking in and being recognized by name by the director, volunteers, and fellow artists! I honestly consider the Monroe-Walton Center for the Arts to be like a second home, one I don’t get to visit too often, but every time I do I’m welcomed like family!
