Mission: Outserve-sldn represents the u. S. Lgbt military community worldwide. Our mission is to: educate the community, provide legal services, advocate for authentic transgender service, provide developmental opportunities, support members, communicate effectively, and work towards equality for all.
Programs: Communications; in 2017, outserve-sldn shared stories in the media of lgbt military families. We joined national and regional conversations and public forums about the experiences of lgbt service members in the post-dadt era and continued to advocate for authentic transgender service. We educated lbft servicemembers and veterans about their right to serve and to correct negative discharge/discipline related to lgbt status. Outserve-sldn managed a strong social media presence with over 70,000 followers.
legal & government affairs: outserve-sldn continued joined forces with other lgbt advocates to successfully sue for transgender service rights. Outserve-sldn continued providing free legal counseling to service members with legal issues stemming from discrimination on one's perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity including hiv positive and transgender service cases. We managed over 400 legal cases in 2017. In addition, outserve-sldn continued providing assistance to veterans seeking to upgrade or correct their discharge paperwork.
member services: outserve-sldn supports its members and their families through participation in national and regional pride events. Outserve-sldn hosted its 6th annual lgbt military leadership conference for members in march 2017. We expanded educational opportunities and, through a year-end merger, positioned outserve-sldn to further expand partner and family services in the future.
