This organization at the chapter level is absolutely wonderful for new and seasoned moms! Unfortunately, the national leadership does not abide by gold-standard governance. Meaning, national board members are not elected like local chapter leaders are and their books are closed (no annual reports, etc.). I believe those flaws affect accountability at the top and may put be putting the charter at risk. Another problem is that several partnerships entered into by the national board seem to reflect the national board's documented desire to become a lobbying group, counter to their non-profit status. In some instances these partnerships, while worthy , have repeatedly resulted in personal gain and transactional business for a specific national board member. This is not the purpose of Mocha Moms to do major lobbying on political issues or to grow one's business. Please, national board, ease off the lobbying and the perks for business and get back to the original Mocha mission, or else you will jeopardize your precious charter!
