MASC far exceeds the leadership experience I had originally expected when I first became an advisor. They make a room of hundreds of kids feel like they're family. They have made me feel like I belong and DEFINITELY made me a better advisor, teacher, and person....always pushing me to do bigger and better things for my kids. Generous, caring, and world changers.....enough said!

I have been involved with MASC for over ten years now and as an educator, it has by far surpassed any experiences I have had with educational or leadership training. The association is student oriented with a focus on service to students, schools and communities at large. The charity of choice is the Special Olympics of Missouri (SOMO) and many many events focused not simply on raising money for the organization but also service of time and energy. The relationship between our students and their athletes is quite strong and lifetime friendships are developed. I could not be more proud to be part of this organization and the training it provides, the networking opportunities and service by example to many.

MASC is an amazing organization that helps students become great leaders. There are many workshops and conferences available to students because of MASC. Each event also incorporates a service project in which students are able to help give back to those in need. They've helped veterans, natural disaster victims, etc. In addition, MASC has a charity of choice, Special Olympics Missouri, that they partner with in SOMO events and by financial donations as well.
Thanks to MASC, school cultures are changing for the better, focusing on character elements like kindness, respect, honesty, and more. MASC truly works to make our schools and our communities better.

MASC is a life-changer for my students, as well as for myself in the role of Advisor. Students are taking the leadership training they receive at MASC events back to their own schools to help build a positive school culture. Students who were once comfortable being in the background have stepped out of their comfort zones and taken on huge leadership roles within our school, and after graduation, due to the leadership training they have experienced. MASC is second-to-none, and I'm so grateful for this nonprofit organization.

MASC is a life-changer...for my students, as well as for myself as an Advisor. Time and time again, the opportunities presented by this wonderful organization have helped take kids who are quiet, or shy, or scared, or who wouldn't normally be found in the spotlight, and turned them into phenomenal leaders. Those kids who are natural-born leaders have honed their leadership skills as a result of the workshops and training provided by MASC. The leadership skills and networking these students receive lasts well beyond their high school year. As an Advisor for my high school's Student Council, I receive so much support from Terri Johnson and from MASC members all across the state. MASC also does a great deal for Special Olympics, an organization that is dear to many of us. When I talk to my graduates who were members of Stuco and ask them what things about their high school careers had the most impact on their lives, they inevitably will talk about Stuco and how MASC helped them become better leaders and better people. I love this organization, and my dedication to it grows with each passing year!

She was shy and not confident in her leadership abilities prior to her going to camp and when she came back for her Senior year of school she emitted confidence. MASC trains future leaders and gives and gives to any and all service projects in Missouri. I was an advisor for over 15 years and both of my kids benefited from the leadership opportunities offered by MASC. Not only did my daughter get to be a Junior Counselor, work that informs her career as a school psychologist, but my ADHD/SOCIAL ANXIETY DISORDER son was trained to speak in groups and be a part of leadership activities, culminating in a speech before the MASC leaders at camp (700 people). Their focus on supporting Special Olympics is amazing. This is the best leadership program for students in Missouri. Top notch!

Before I became a part of MASC, I was someone who wouldn’t dare put myself out there in any aspect of life or take any leap of faith, big or small. When I joined this organization as a freshman in high school, I had no idea of the magnitude of effect that it would take on me. I attended the MASC Summer Leadership Workshop at William Woods University for the first time going into my sophomore year, and it changed my life forever. In just 7 short days, I had found a new version of myself, the best one might I add. Since then I have returned to the camp twice, once having served as a junior counselor with the hope of instilling the same level of confidence and self worth in other high school students across the state of Missouri. I have never met a better group of both students and adults that share one common goal: to ensure that every last person we interact with achieves a sense of importance and purpose. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the Missouri Association of Student Councils, and for that I will be forever grateful.

As a member for over 20 years, I appreciate the high quality programming and resources MASC provides. But, the best part of this group are the great connections with like-minded educators across the state who work with their student councils to create positive, inclusive school environments. Our high school has been a member of MASC for nearly 20 years, and our Student Council and school are both better thanks to the ideas and support this organization provides. For STUCO advisers (and other activity advisers), MASC is a network of outstanding middle and high school teachers who want to make their buildings better places for students to come to school and for teachers to come to work. Plus, we share all of our ideas - collaboration and helping are the foundation of what we do. MASC programming, from the advisers' and student conferences to our summer leadership camp are top quality and help those who attend go back to their schools and improve its culture and climate. Being a MASC member school has made me a better adviser and has helped us make long-lasting changes in our school and community.

Missouri association of student councils (MASC) roped me into their organization as soon as i started high school and even now as I'm in college i still know i have a family with terri johnson and her organization. From Special Olympics to Teacher Luncheon, MASC does it all and its all for our schools. On top its volunteer work for others they also hold a summer leadership workshop every summer, famously known within the organization as Fulton. This workshop helps create and fine tune the leaders of tommorow for the next generation.

MASC was, and will always be a family to me. They will make schools a better place and most of all they will never stop caring for each and every individual student that walks through their front doors!

My experience at MASC was incredible. It was an experience that I will never forget. We did as much as dancing to pep songs to shedding tears from keynote speakers. My personal favorite keynote speaker is A'ric Jackson. He was so inspirational and energetic. I even got a selfie with him!! To make sure I didn't forget one thing about this trip, which will be hard to forget, I vlogged everything. Something that I will always remember is meeting a new friend named Taylor. To this day, I have her social media and now text with her. Lastly, I learned the importance of STUCO and what a real leader looks like. All in all, MASC was an amazing experience where I learned the true meaning of leadership.

My name is Jasper Risenhoover! I am a 2016 graduate of Blue Eye High School in the Southwest District, a proud MASC Alumnus, and forever a part of the MASC family.

I served on Student Council for seven years from 2009 to 2016. My high school StuCo is a MASC member. I was blessed with the opportunity to experience four years of MASC StuCo Districts and three years of the MASC Summer Leadership Workshop in Fulton. I participated in Level One in 2014 on Council V, Level Two in 2015 on Council F, and served as a Level Two Junior Counselor (JC) in 2016 on Council J. In addition, I had the opportunity to earn the MASC Distinguished Student Leader Award in 2016.

MASC is an indescribably amazing family, beyond merely being a StuCo association and organization. Every single person in MASC is connected - in my opinion, divinely connected - and lifetime friendships are made. I am incredibly proud to represent MASC for the rest of my life! I pray continued blessings on MASC as it continues to positively impact lives, and in turn positively impact the state, the country, and the world. Keep Leading With GUSTO!

I was thrown into a world as a first year advisor three years ago as a state officer school without knowing that piece of information . I was so HAPPY that I was thrown into this world. From that day on, my students, fellow advisors and I were all in what we call the magic of MASC. This organization allows my students full heartedly be themselves through service, spirit and networking with fellow leaders. MASC organizes great events like state and district conventions, summer leadership camp, winter energizer and now the first region 6 convention that will be hosted on Missouri soil. This organization gives my students the tools that are necessary to lead once they step their foot back into Troy Buchanan High School.

On the advisor side, they give us the opportunity to network with other advisors at advisor conference, state and district conventions, advisor program at summer workshop and many social media networking platforms. MASC has the ability to take every nook and cranny of Missouri no matter if it is a small school in the boot heel of Missouri, large school in our metro areas, or like us a big school in a small town and brings them all together as a learning community who's one goal is to "Inspire greatness, serve others, be more and LEAD".

MASC is an organization dedicated to developing generations of servant leaders. As a student, I found MASC through summer leadership workshop. From there, I was able to continue attending events, networking, and developing my leadership strengths. As my family saw the positive change it created for me, each of my younger sisters also attended camp, district, and state conventions. We each created many strong friendships and connections as kids, that we still maintain to this day. As we have all grown and found positions of leadership within our respective professional fields, each of us can attribute MASC as a foundation for who we are today! It is an organization that I truly believe is fully accessible and beneficial to any and all students- no matter their background. We all recommend it to students that we know, and can't wait until our own children are old enough to share in the 'magic' that is MASC!

I have experience MASC from many view points at many different events. One theme has remained through every experience, compassion. MASC teaches students, teachers, principals, volunteers what compassion looks like. MASC has created hundreds of compassionate leaders that pick up trash that they didn't leave, help others carry groceries in the pouring rain, and serve those who are different than themselves. MASC emphasizes and has brought awareness to Special Olympics of Missouri. Through their partnership hundreds of students with special needs have had their lives CHANGED, and have made true lifelong FRIENDSHIPS. MASC has been an incredible organization for my students, my job as an advisor, and my life in general. As a student, I attended every event/workshop MASC put on, and the leadership and interpersonal skills I learned through MASC helped me to improve my school and myself.

When I went into teaching and became an advisor, those old lessons stayed with me in my classroom instruction and teacher leadership. I have spent the past 9 years sending student leaders to the learning opportunities provided by MASC. Every time we return from something, they have new ideas for making our school better, greater confidence in leading our council, and an ever-expanding network of student leaders to lean on throughout the state.

MASC has also provided opportunities to grow as an advisor in similar ways. Through a network of other advisors throughout the state, I have never felt like I was alone in trying to better my council, and I have a world of resources to pull from so I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

The Missouri Association of Student Councils has been the most influential group I have ever been a part of, and I know most of my students who have attended events would say the same.

I have been involved with MASC for seven years, and every event I attend is amazing. The student leaders that I have gotten to meet through this organization are incredible. I would give anything to be able to attend the summer workshop more than the seven possible years that I can. No amount of words or stars can express how amazing MASC really is.

MASC has made me who I am today. MASC was able to open my eyes to possibility, and opened my mind to be a better person. I have some of my best memories from MASC activities. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and character I received from MASC.

Ive been a part of MASC for 4 years now as a student leader, and my experiencd has been mind boggling. The places and doors made available to me are outstanding and numerous. This organization changes lives through its work and allows for students to be the good within a highschool and rather than just allowing for fun experiences, they teach so much. Between state convention, key note speakers, and the summer leadership convention, there is a lifetime of knowledge shared. I am glad to say i am a part of MASC as well as an alumni!

MASC will forever hold a special place in my heart. It has helped shape me into the leader and person I am today. From being a camper, to helping transform the lives of others as a JC. I will be forever grateful for that!

My daughter requested to attend the 2016 Summer MASC Leadership Event in Fulton, MO. I was hesitant to allow her to attend this event due to the cost and just not knowing much about the activities that would take place etc...Although I agreed to let her attend and I am so glad that I did. MASC has been such a positive experience for her and continues to be influential in her decisions and actions after returning from this camp. She is going to be attending a Winter Energizer session this coming week and has been so excited about this since registering in the fall of this past year! I am also excited to see what she is able to learn about herself and her peers again after this next experience.
What these teens are able to experience, learn, and development is PRICELESS. As an Human Resources Manager these are the exact types of LEADERS we want to hire in our organizations. The confidence and leadership that my daughter has gained could have never been achieved through a traditional classroom or any other activity. She has played volleyball since she was in 5th grade; one of her weaknesses has been confidence and leading on the court. She is a very capable player however she is her own worst critic at the same time. This past season was incredible. She played with a lot passion, confidence and lead the team in many many areas! It was an exciting change to see and I know it came from this experience with MASC. I am grateful for the individuals who are willing to invest in these teens and make a real difference in their lives. I am so glad that my child has this experience that she will remember for a lifetime. She has made many friends through this experience that she still remains in contact with; I love that MASC has made her world much bigger than it once was. Thank you again and keep doing great things MASC!

The Missouri Association of Student Councils’ dedication to its mission of inspiring greatness, serving others, striving for personal excellence and providing leadership opportunities is evident in the quality programming the association offers. I have the pleasure of working with MASC staff throughout the year and am always amazed at their enthusiasm and drive. Each year, I also have the pleasure of attending the MASC State Convention as a vendor and I always leave feeling inspired. One day, these youth will be our leaders in government, business and social settings. MASC provides tools and resources for them to achieve their goals, which in turn benefits all of us. It is an honor and privilege to work with MASC.

After my first time attending camp, my passion and confidence were sparked. I went home and used this spark as a catalyst to serve my school and community. I gained a motivation to be diligent, not only in stuco, but in everything I do. This enthusiasm rubbed off on others and changed my council for the better. MASC helped me find the potential in myself and inspired me to help others find theirs.

Being a part of MASC has opened many doors for my students. Being active in the organization allows them to network with other schools, experience different speakers, ,make friends around the state, and become all around better student leaders for our school.

For me, being part of the MASC family has been life changing. Though we only see each other two or three times a year, my closest and dearest friends are those that I see at our MASC events. Without question, MASC advisors are the best support group anyone could ask for.

Thanks to MASC I found my purpose! Every kid searches tirelessly for what they want to be when they grow up. Well thanks to MASC I developed a passion for Special Olympics and discovered that my purpose was to help those with disabilities. Fast forward 7 years and the same organization that helped me find my purpose introduced me to lifelong friends that served as references to land me in a career I am truly passionate about! I am the Program Manager for Special Olympics Missouri in the St. Louis Metro Area and I live out my purpose to help those with disabilities every day! It is no exaggeration to say that I would not be where I am today without Missouri Association of Student Councils!

The Missouri Association of Student Councils (MASC) has left an indelible mark on my students, my school and I, both professionally and personally.

Through the MASC partnership with Special Olympics, my students and school have made an impact that goes far beyond being”Fans in the Stands”.

My school and community now benefits from a Leadership Class and a Life Skills class, which came about because of MASC. Students in the Leadership Class are all Class A volunteers with Special Olympics, plan activities involving their Life Skills classmates and partner with their “Buddies” in the Life Skills class to perform certain tasks, such as run the high school recycling program.
As part of a very strong MASC district organization and state organization, students are actively engaged in district meetings as well as state convention. They collaborate with peers to learn new ideas for community betterment (social, spirit, community-service based activities etc.) as well as learn methods and techniques to improve existing projects and activities.
Students forge friendships with peers and host families that transcend grade levels and geographic location.
Professionally, MASC has provided invaluable professional development opportunities. The advisor’s workshop and summer leadership camp are particularly valuable for the depth and breadth of topics addressed and the opportunity for “hands-on” experiences.
I have experienced personal growth and satisfaction personally. I have formed some very strong friendships with my “STUCO BFFs”. The advisors on the listserv and our executive members are quick to respond to address issues and answer questions and sometimes just provide a much needed pat on the back.
I was a “Student Council kid” in high school; it is amazing to come full circle and see my students learn how to become better citizens, and in so doing improve themselves and their communities. (I have also written some awesome letters of recommendation based on student planning and implementation of Student Council projects.)

The Missouri Association of Student Councils was one of the most important experiences of my life. The leadership, public speaking, and general people skills that I learned through various MASC events have made the college experience much easier and has also helped tremendously in the workplace. This organization taught me how to work with others in ways I had never even thought of.

The Missouri Association of Student Councils provided an incredible amount of networking that has proven itself useful on more than one occasion. Being able to have instant friends upon arriving at college made the transition to college much easier and more enjoyable. Knowing people in your classes, and having study partners immediately has helped me immensely, all thanks to the events i attended, and friends that I made through MASC

The Missouri Association of Student Councils has given me immeasurable insight into what it means to be a true leader. Taking the collective needs of the group and being able to satisfy many while still obtaining the goals of the group. MASC also taught me how to work more effectively as a team and how to be a constructive team member, and that sometimes it is just as important to follow, as it is to lead.

I just want to say how grateful I am for everything MASC does. Two years into college, I still say that MASC has been the biggest influence on who I am today. I know that without my training through conventions and camp, and especially as a Junior Counselor, I would not have the confidence or the ability to do what I am doing now. I owe my public speaking skills. confidence, and willingness to work outside my comfort zone all to my time spent at camp over the years. The relationships I have made through my MASC are my biggest support network, and I still call some of the people I went to camp with my best friends.

Thanks to everything I learned at MASC, I helped start successful student organization at Mizzou that several other MASC alums are a part of. I know that we would not have the skills or drive to make this a reality without our past experience with MASC camps and conventions. I am also getting to witness firsthand how MASC is changing my little brothers' lives, and its incredible to see how much they have grown because of their involvement.

MASC has had an incredibly positive impact on all areas of my life, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t testify how great of an impact it has had on my personal life. Through MASC, I have met some of my closest friends, and even my husband! It is such an incredible organization for networking with like-minded people who truly want to make their school, their world, and themselves better. MASC has not only made me a better Student Council advisor and teacher leader, but also a more positive, compassionate person.
