Mission: To provide humanitarian assistance to victims of poverty and disaster
Programs: Medical assistance - three trips are sent to honduras to provide medical services and supplies to victims of poverty and disaster. We give almost 4,000 people a year in save the children communities access to health care at least once a year. We provide basic medicines and relief for temporary pain, infection, and parasites for those 4,000 patients.
nutrition and dental hygiene program - our funds are used to educate our patients and promote healthier hygiene and diet; provide fluoride, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and the instruction on using them to 2,500 school children; supplement nutrition with vitamins for 4,000 patients; staff the la esperanza lion's club dental clinic with a dentist who works 3 hours a day, monday through friday, 50 weeks a year, to provide dental services to the poor.
healthy homes and farms - missoula medical aid raises money to support save the children agricultural and home projects that make the homes and farms healthier and more productive. The belief is people living in a healthier and more productive environment will get sick less often. Funds have been used for starting small chicken farms with direct marketing of meat and eggs; distribution of milk cows into a community in order to give children access to milk; introduction of plant barriers to contain soil erosion; teaching and modeling organic farming techniques; purchasing seeds and starter trays so farmers can begin to plant a wider variety of vegetables.
