Mission: Coordinating the recovery of human organs and tissue for transplantation by working with and providing education to medical professionals, donor families, and the people of mississippi to save and improve lives.
Programs: In 2017, mississippi organ recovery agency (mora) worked to generate awareness and increase donor authorizations in mississippi's donor registry through the ms department of public safety, donatelifems. Org. During 2017, designated donors were at an all-time high for ms, bringing in over 60,000 new registered donors. Mora utilized staff, resources and the person power of more than 130 volunteers that put over 400 hours to promote organ, eye and tissue donation awareness throughout mora's designated service region. Mora's public education emphasis included donation awareness to the general public through, but not limited to, educational facilities, advertising, community events, speaking engagements, promotional events, recognition ceremonies and outreach through the faith communities. 2017 media and specialty advertising promoting donation awareness and encouraging registrations at www. Donatelifems. Org included: - mora's monthly newsletter was emailed to registered donors, hospital staff, medical professionals, donation advocates and the general public. - integrated use of social and mobile media marketing including facebook, twitter, instagram and you tube to promote donor awareness events and encourage donor registrations. - a video share that was directed toward faith based awareness. - a video share that shared testimonials from donor families and recipients that was a call to action for having the conversation about donation. - press releases and public service donation awareness information sent to media in the state and monitored through cision, a media management system. - donatelifems. Org donor registry information promoted via state-wide media outlets. - paid radio, television, on-line and print advertising combined with in-kind advertising. - follow-up correspondence sent to donatelifems. Org registrants with a personalized donor card. - targeted media campaigns and donor education materials geared to the african american and hispanic community throughout the state. 2017 education and events promoting donation awareness and encouraging registration in donatelifems. Org included: - donor awareness and donor registry materials distributed at health fairs, schools, conferences, community, and workplace partnership events. - donor education curriculum taught in health science, science and driver's ed classes within the mora service area. - continued donor awareness initiatives targeting dps leadership and staff at dps testing locations; attended three regional dps meetings. - the second donate life ms day at the state capitol with donate life ms state team. - 2 donate life ms state team meetings with mstf & mississippi dps. - 2017 participation in holiday related community events including st. Patrick's day parade. - donate life flag raising ceremonies in recognition of special dates and in honor of life saving organ and tissue donations. National donate life month (ndlm) activities during april 2017 - legacy lap at ummc medical mall, press conference and balloon release included in this ceremony for donor families and recipients and their families. - multiple balloon release ceremonies at hospitals across the state. - impressions of life-painting event for donor families & recipients to honor a loved one in tupelo, flowood & hattiesburg. - national blue & green day photo contest. - promotion at ms braves & biloxi shuckers minor league baseball games. - 5th annual racing for donation 8k run/walk and celebration of life family picnic - press releases regarding ndlm events. - inaugural tour de life bike ride in pontotoc, ms to promote organ, eye and tissue donation in north mississippi. - hosted nascar driver joey gase in meridian & flowood for two separate awareness & mediaevents. Major events hosted by mora in 2017 included: - 4111 annual spero awards program to recognize hospital partners, medical personnel, donor advocates and corporate partners that help to promote need for organ, eye and tissue donation. - 2017 donor family recognition ceremonies in hattiesburg, biloxi, flowood and tupelo that featured handmade ornaments and photos honoring their loved ones. - inaugural praises of hope-a faith based/multicultural outreach event in december that mora hosted that featured testimonials from transplant recipients, donor families and those in need.
