Mission: Coordinating the recovery of human organs and tissue for transplantation by working with and providing education to medical professionals, donor families, and the people of mississippi to save and improve lives.
Programs: Public education report: in 2014, the mississippi organ recovery agency (mora) utilized staff, resources and the manpower of more than 300 volunteers to promote organ, eye and tissue donation awareness throughout moras designated service region. Additionally, mora worked to generate awareness and increase donor authorizations in mississippis donor registry at donatelifems. Org. During 2014, designated donors increased 10% for a total of 702,000 registered donors at years end. In 2014, moras public education emphasis included donation awareness to the general public through but not limited to educational facilities, advertising, community events, speaking engagements, promotional events, recognition ceremonies and outreach through the faith communities. 2014 media and specialty advertising: mora promoted donation awareness and encouraging registrations in donatelifems. Org:* mora monthly newsletter emailed to registered donors, hospital staff, medical professionals, donation advocates and the general public. * integrated use of social and mobile media marketing including facebook, twitter, instagram, pinterest and youtube to promote donor awareness events and encourage donor registrations. * mississippi miracle, a television ad campaign, highlighting donor and transplant related stories, as well as being a call to action for donor registrations. * press releases and public service donation awareness information sent to media in the state and monitored through vocus, a media management system. * donatelifems donor registry information promoted via state-wide media outlets. * paid radio, television, on-line and print advertising combined with in-kind advertising. * follow-up correspondence sent to donatelifems registrants with a personalized, laminated donor card. * targeted media campaigns and donor education materials geared to the african american and hispanic community throughout the state. 2014 education and events promoting donation awareness and encouraging registration in donatelifems. Org: * donor awareness and donor registry materials distributed at health fairs, schools, conferences, community, and workplace partnership events. * donor education curriculum taught in health science and science classes within the mora service area. * assistance and leadership with transplant awareness groups and donor family councils. * volunteer appreciation luncheons/banquets/picnics hosted by mora throughout its service region. * donor awareness initiatives targeting dps leadership and staff at dps testing locations. * 2014 participation in holiday related community events including st. Patricks day parade. * 2014 partnership with the miss mississippi pageant, mentoring contestants that choose donor awareness as a promotional platform. * 2014 donor day events at colleges throughout mississippi including: the university of mississippi, mississippi state university, the university of southern mississippi, jackson state university, alcorn state university, mississippi gulf coast community college, hinds community college, northeast community college and itawamba community college. * 2014 donor challenge on seven college campuses utilizing rival schools to register more students than their rivals that were also participating in the challenge. * donate life flag raising ceremonies in recognition of special dates and in honor of life saving organ and tissue donations. * national donate life month (ndlm) activities during april 2014 included: - open house and ribbon cutting at tupelo office - picnic, balloon release and press conference at ummc in jackson to celebration start of ndlm - multiple balloon release ceremonies at hospitals across the state - promotional night at the aa affiliate of the atlanta braves in pearl, ms - impressions of life-painting event for donor families & recipients to honor a loved one - national blue & green day photo contest - drive for life golf tournament for fundraising - racing for donation 8k run/walk and celebration of life family picnic - sponsored appearance by nascar driver joey gase(driver of the donate life car) in two cities - ndlm celebration at biloxi dps station - regional donor family ceremony events - press releases regarding ndlm events * inaugural awards program (spero awards) to recognize hospital partners, medical personnel, donor advocates and corporate partners that help to promote need for organ, eye and tissue donation. * 2014 donor family recognition ceremonies that featured handmade ornaments and photos honoring their loved ones.
