We became familiar with Mission of Deeds through one of its employees. And then we were clearing out a household and found that Mission of Deeds was a great place to donate household items. We learned that the goods were going to people in dire need in a very thoughtful and impactful manner. Soon after we found out about the fund raiser for Beds. Getting a new bed when you've been through tough times is a great symbol of being safe. The work of Mission of Deeds is vital The employees and volunteers carry out the 'mission' in a very respectful and impressive way. I am proud to be a donor to the Mission of Deeds.
We were having a bad year. Covid-19 just started. We were in need of a mattress, coffee table, 1 Winter coat and coffee maker. Mission of Deeds came through for us.
They gave us an electric coffee maker, small but good for 2 people, a queen sized BodyFit mattress a 42 inch coffee table and 1 Winter coat.
Ran out to get filters, still sitting in our cabinet because the coffee maker never worked. The coat was very small, they did replace it with something that was for early Fall, or could be used as a under jacket liner, it had a 1.5 inch collar and no hood. We requested a short coffee table because we are disabled and have 2 walkers. It is too long with very sharp corners, which I constantly walk into. My calves are always very colorful - and hurt. But, the best part is the brand new mattress they brought us! ALL SPRINGS, WITHOUT A STIRCH OF PADDING. They refused to even check it. I'm not talking about the box spring. I'm talking about the mattress!! A nurse came over and we had her look at it. She said, this is terrible, no one can sleep on this. She immediately called our caseworker. They couldn't get anyone to respond. We were given a mattress topper, but the mattress is so bad, the mattress topper isn't enough. I now have stenosis in my lumbar spine at pressing on my spinal cord, which I was told that bed of springs, if it didn't cause the injury, no doubt it seriously contributed to it. Can't find the mattress company's contact info. I cannot believe this nonprofit that credits themselves for providing a million mattresses didn't realize just how very defective that mattress is - they just didn't care!
We have donated to Mission of deeds both financially and in providing furniture, and have attended a number of their fundraisers over the last 15 years. We've been impressed by the Mission of deeds executive staff as well as their volunteers in how they've been able facilitate help to others.
I'm glad we are able to help support a cause where the benefits are so visibly tangible towards helping others in need and jump starting lives.
This is the most wonderful non-profit organization I have ever been involved with! My involvement started out slowly, with a donation of linens through the Wakefield Gas & Light Dept. who used to collect them during the holidays. Then off and on we donated goods that we no longer needed, and our company had a fundraiser for the organization, to which Paula and Bruce came and told us all more about the great work that MOD does. From then on, all the recyclable cans and bottles at our company were turned into donations for MOD. When we moved to a smaller home, I was thrilled to be able to donate a lot of household goods, which gave me the opportunity to see closer up how wonderfully the clients are served, and with such respect. Eventually I was asked to join the board, where my confidence in this organization has increased even further - seeing the dedication and camaraderie of the staff and volunteers, as well as the constant search for new ways to better serve the clients and offer them even more support (for example, with the free books given to the children of clients who come to pick out their furniture, and the grocery gift cards clients receive now). I couldn't be prouder to help in a very small way to make this organization the Great Nonprofit that it is!
We needed a few items for our new apartment, specifically a mattress. The people that came were on time and very nice. We were given a mattress by body fit. The mattress is defective. Our caseworker told us they won't replace it, they only come once. I tried to get an address for the manufacturer. I couldn't. It is so bad, a well made 3 inch mattress topper doesn't help. The pandemic prevented our caseworker or other nurse from Elder Services to visit and view the mattress. Finally, last October, a nurse came to do their review. She felt the mattress with her hand and was shocked. The mattress is all springs, covered with material having no padding. I got a mattress topper, but the springs have shifted. The mattress was turned, but the same thing happened. Bodyfit donated seriously defective mattresses.
As a nonprofit in the business of providing furnishings so people in need of having more than a roof over their heads by supplying furnishings and home goods - especially beds, you have a responsibility to inspect merchandise before you accept it, let alone provide it to the people who came to you for assistance. I wasn't surprised when the coffee maker didn't work either. Disgraceful!
Forget I am a senior, I have degenerative spine disease. Sleeping on that mattress has caused my spine rapid deterioration. I now sleep sitting up because I can't stand my bed. I was so relieved to know I would be getting a new mattress, very grateful when it was delivered, but that night and every night after I think how sorry I am for ever being assisted by your company. and the old mattress i gave up.

I am Bruce Murison, Executive Director of Mission of Deeds. Mission of Deeds wants every client to be happy, so we are greatly disturbed when that is not the case. Although it is true that we try to fulfill client needs in one visit, we would never invoke that rule if a problem develops with an item we have given. We wish to stay involved until we have done all that we can to achieve client satisfaction. We do not believe that your situation had previously been brought to our attention. Even though it has been a while, we still want to help. Please email me at bruce.murison@missionofdeeds.org. You can also telephone us at 781-944-8050 and ask for me (Bruce), Paula or Sharon. Please insist on speaking with one of us. We will do everything possible to see that you can sleep comfortably in a proper bed. Mission of Deeds has given out thousands of mattresses over the years with almost never an issue, but our aim is perfection. Please contact us!
Mission of Deeds is a wonderful organization that helps people in need get settled into homes of their own. The volunteers and staff treat their clients with the utmost respect and kindness. They continued to provide their services during the Covid crisis. MOD is a valuable part of our community.
I have been a volunteer at the Mission for several years. For many years my office staff and I would pool the Christmas money we would spend on each other and donate it to the Mission for mattresses.
I thought that MOD had a mission and action that was outstanding. When I retired I was able to volunteer and help directly.
I feel everyone deserves a safe place to live, food and healthcare. MOD goes a long way to provide that safe and comfortable place to live. Being able to offer new mattresses, kitchen supplies, furniture, linens and some appliances to people in need is outstanding.
The "FAMILY" at the mission is truly a caring and giving team.
My husband and I have been donors to Mission of Deeds for many years now and he also volunteers there. They are a caring group of people who perform a valuable service by receiving and storing used household goods and furniture in good condition to be donated to needy families as well as providing new mattresses and bedding to those in need.
We were donors for about 20 years to this very worthwhile charity. We couldn't wait until
we retired, so we could volunteer as well. The Mission is a gift to those in need. People who can't afford to outfit an apartment, can get all home furnishings for free. And they only rely on donations. The many volunteers and dedicated staff who work there are like a family. Not only do the clients benefit, the volunteers who "make a difference" benefit as well. In spite of the Covid Pandemic, the organization found a way to continue to operate. An amazing accomplishment!
Mission of Deeds is an excellent organization that helps folks get settled into homes of their own. I have donated several times and will continue to donate as much as possible. They treat their clients with the utmost respect and dignity and truly make a difference in so many people's lives. I appreciate the work they do in our community.
After donating to many different organizations for many years, we decided a few years ago to concentrate our giving. Mission of Deeds is one of two local nonprofits we have chosen to support for the long term. First in our decision is their very important mission - to help people who have so little get established with the basics for setting up a household. Second is the financial efficiency of their operations - they are very deliberate about keeping overhead low in order to maximize the good they can do for the people they serve. Staff refer to the people they support as "clients" - one example of the the service mentality that is core to the organization's culture. We believe that every dollar we donate to Mission of Deeds is put to very good use.
Even during the Pandemic, Mission of Deeds has found a way to be there to assist our neighbors! What a great organization, that does great work to help people. Too notch staff and volunteers, compassionately focused, providing essential household items for people in need.
Mission of Deeds is a wonderful organization that improves the lives of those in need and does so with kindness and consideration. The volunteers and staff are passionate about making a positive difference in our local community.
I have referred many clients to Mission of Deeds. MOD treats everyone who comes through their doors with the utmost respect and go out of their way to go above and beyond to meet the clients needs. Thank you for all you do!
The Mission of Deeds works tirelessly to help those in need. They are truly an amazing organization with wonderful people!
When my son was 16 he was involved in a car accident! He was not hurt, no one was, but he was charged with minor motor vehicle violations. As part of his discipline, he volunteered to serve at The Mission of Deeds for a couple of months! It was, for him, a rewarding experience. He saw people coming in that had nothing, and they were able to walk away with “something”- be it a bed or blankets or pots/pans, etc. This gave him insight into the reality of how many people live, and it made him realize how people can help each other. He actually liked volunteering at the Mission. Gave him a sense of purpose. (I am a financial donor).
Mission of Deeds is the best!! I have been volunteering for about two years now. It feels great to help the people that need help.
As a member of the board for almost 20 years I have watched this incredible organization grow from a small group of dedicated individuals to a much larger team of committed volunteers. Their enthusiasm is infectious and their mission unwavering. Growth has provided more opportunity but has not changed the fundamental beliefs upon which this organization is built. I am truly proud to be a member of the ‘family’ called the Mission of Deeds!
As a volunteer at The Mission of Deeds I interacted with many clients. One in particular stands out. We had just finished loading household furnishings for a family. The little boy looked up at his Dad and said. “Does this mean I have a real bed tonight”.
This really sums up the mission of the Mission of Deeds!
I became acquainted with Mission of Deeds through the Triglione Family. As a Realtor, I have had opportunities to direct my clients who are downsizing or relocating to find a purposeful use for their excess furnishings and household goods. My Son, then a high school student at Malden Catholic became a volunteer MOD . It was truly life changing for him to understand not only how fortunate he was but how impactful help can be for someone in need. MOD clients are always treated with care, compassion and most of all Dignity. My family is honored to be involved in this organization and the amazing work they do every day.
Periodically I stop by the Mission of Deeds headquarters to drop something off. I am always inspired how each and every volunteer who works there stops for a moment and greets me with a smile. Those smiles show me how much the volunteers believe in the work they do. And always - regardless whether my drop off be big or small - there are expressions of thanks. I leave with a piece of candy - or two - but more so with a feeling that I have done something good. It is the essence of personal giving can be.
I'm a volunteer, and have seen how much they do for people in need. It's been a very fulfilling experience.
When I first became acquainted with Mission of Deeds last year, it was simply to donate furniture. Over the past year, their mission and welcoming approach to the needy became a draw which lured me further into the organization. I now volunteer one day a week to repair and refinish donated furniture so the poor moving into their first home can have some access to these pieces. It is a warm, congenial, organization operating with minimal budget and aiming to help the unfortunate. It is a privilege to work with them.
Mission of Deeds succeeds at helping every client by giving them basic household essentials from new beds, bedding, kitchen essentials, living room and dining room furniture to help them re-establish their lives after coming across hard times. Each and every client is treated with respect and welcomed into the Mission of Deeds family. The work by the staff and volunteers is done out of a strong commitment to help those who are less fortunate. This is an amazing group of people helping people.
I have been working with the Mission of Deeds for 10 years. I am a professional organizer & senior move manager. My clients donate their furniture and household goods to the MOD when they mover or clean out their space. The MOD goes above and beyond to help me and my clients. I love working with the staff and the other volunteers.
I began donating to this charity almost 20 years ago and the more I learned about it, the more I wanted to be involved. That involvement has morphed from donating furniture, to sponsoring financial events, to getting friends to donate, to ultimately joining their board. I am very proud to be affiliated with the Mission of Deeds. It does so much good for those in need and does so with minimal overhead and a kind heart — to it’s clients, the staff and all the volunteers. It truly is a Great Nonprofit!
I have been a volunteer at the Mission of Deeds for about 18 years. I have volunteered in just about every position available. This wide experience has allowed me to see first hand several things. The first is how well the organization is run. We have a large group of dedicated volunteers who not only take their "jobs" seriously but also do it with a passion, thus the lack of a need for too many paid employees. We also take the time to look at each case personally to best help our clients. Our clients are treated with respect and kindness. There are very few things sadder than going into a lived in apartment with very little furniture. On the flip side, there is great satisfaction in knowing that we are helping people through a difficult stage in their lives.

Mission of Deeds provides struggling families with the basic necessities to set up a home. It is run by a dedicated group of volunteers and staff. I have been fortunate enough to be able to help plan some fundraising activities for MOD and more recently serve on their board of directors. I am continuously amazed at not only the generosity of donations from the community but also how efficiently and tirelessly the staff works. Volunteering here has also given me the opportunity to witness clients coming in/out of MOD and the relief and joy on their faces when they see all that is available to them. It is truly a special place.
For the past nine years, I have volunteered in numerous roles at Mission of Deeds (MOD), an amazing organization that assists clients and their families in need. MOD provides its clients with household goods, linens, beds and furniture; all the items necessary to furnish their studio and/or 1 bedroom apartment. The organization prides itself on the quality of the client experience during their visit to MOD, and the quality of the items provided. MOD is privately funded and holds several fundraising events throughout the year. My wife and I have been intimately involved in these events and work hard to make these events successful and memorable (please see attached event pictures). I dedicate 15-20 hours per week to volunteering and look forward to going into MOD; and, more importantly I am very pleased to know that I've worked toward the betterment of the lives of those less fortunate.
I am a frequent donor to Mission of Deeds and I am always happy to see the real results from my donations. They have a very specific mission and are a great help to the people they serve. They are well organized, passionate about what they do, and create meaningful change to people who really need it.
I am a recent volunteer with Mission of Deeds, but have been a donor for several years. Over the years, many people have told me what a good organization it is, which led me to accept the volunteer opportunity. In my short time with Mission of Deeds, I have seen a wide range of needy situations that have been referred to them for assistance, the numerous charitable organizations that refer their clients, and the generosity of Mission of Deeds and its donors in providing that assistance. It has been a pleasure for me to be involved in any small way.
Mission of Deeds is an organization that gives back not only to those in need but also to our community. It is a valued organization within the town of Reading. Both my children have volunteered at the Mission of Deeds and have learned not only how fortunate they are but also how good it feels to give back to those in need. Mission of Deeds is a charity where you know your donations/time are really making an impact on many lives on many levels. The stories of the families they have helped are heart warming.t

I have been a volunteer board member for more than five years now. Mission of Deeds was a far different organization when I joined than it is now. Yes, they had a successful capital campaign to renovate and improve it's warehouse and office space and yes they have expanded their "brand" and name recognition. But the reality is that the Mission of Deeds is exactly the same as it was when it started many years ago. The organization runs still on volunteer help and donated goods to provide a level of hope and support to those in need. We at the Mission take pride in that 0.88 cents from every dollar donated is used for client needs. Bruce Murison and his team continue to work miracles every day with little fanfare.
