Mission: Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex assists those people who "fall through the cracks" and are not able to help themselves or cannot receive adequate help in other ways.
Programs: Mission metroplex continues its exempt purpose by meeting the physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual needs of the community. The taxpayer provides an afterschool tutoring program with approximately 3,366 students in attendance each week. In the spring, an "easter store" was opened where 1,066 parents could find easter gifts for their children at no charge. The same week, there was an easter egg hunt with attendance of 4,182. On thanksgiving day, 6,000 volunteers delivered hot meals and turkey baskets to 5,753 families. In 2014, 32,246 people received free gifts from the annual "christmas store," angel tree, and adopt-a-family program. Throughout the year, 152,344 people received emergency assistance in the form of rent or utilities, clothes, food, furniture at no cost.
mission metroplex provides free dental care to the residents of arlington, kennedale and mansfield. The clinic staff is primarily volunteer dentists, assistants, and hygienists. In 2014, 1,434 patients were seen in 4,961 visits. The primary goal of the dental clinic is to assist patients who have fallen through the cracks of traditional care. They either cannot afford dental visits or insurance, or do not qualify for medicaid, but after visiting the free dental clinic, they can return to work or school pain free.
mission metroplex provides transportation to the homeless, school children in crisis, medical patients, and families in refugee programs who do not have another means to travel to work, school, medical appointments, or other classes. In 2014, mission metroplex transported 869 people. All clients are referred from the arlington isd, local hospital and patient outreach programs or are residents of local shelters. All transportation is provided free of charge. Arlington, tx lacks public transportation, so the goal of mission metroplex is to transport people who otherwise could not get to job interviews, work, school or other crucial appointments. Transportation ran five days per week in 2014.
mission metroplex provides free medical care five days and one evening per week to the uninsured and underinsured. Patients are seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Many come early in the morning for a spot in line, and the waiting room is always full before opening time. The patients are cared for by volunteer doctors. The medical clinic coordinates efforts with other community health providers to arrange free prescriptions, free specialist care, and in some cases, free surgeries in order to provide the people in the community with the greatest need wth the best possible care.
