Words can not express the dedication and passion and money and time that this organization puts in. They are amazing and everything, EVERYTHING is for the dogs. Everything they do is above and beyond and far exceeds all expectations. We have adopted two dogs and will continue to adopt from here for the rest of our lives. They way this organization is on point with knowing exactly which dog would is best fit for each environment is just unexplainable. We have a very unique fox terrier mix dog. His name is Scout and he is parallel to the term “grumpy old man” haha. He is very selective when it comes to who he allows in his circle of trust and this organization just knew exactly who would be a perfect fit for Scout. We have attached pictures of Retired CWD Spirit (German Shepherd) with Scout and also Retired CWD Queti (Black Lab) with Scout. These pictures do not do justice of the love and care that these dogs have for Scout and our family. There is no way our life and family would be complete, thanks to Mission K9 Rescue. We seriously have them to thank for making our lives complete and filled with more love and happiness that is just irreplaceable.
A wonderful place for our retired heroes waiting for their forever homes Unbelievable caring staff that puts the dogs first. From on site vet tech, to large clean outdoor individual kennels for play and exercise, to heated indoor kennel for colder days/nights.
From the moment I saw CWD Hades picture on their website I knew I had to don't part in his retirement. The entire staff from the first email were the best. Blair walked me through the application process patiently and answered all my questions. She provided me with Sal's the kennel masters email, so I could ask a million more questions which he took the time to answer each one. Kristine Mayer was nothing but supportive in an endless trail of emails.
Thanksgiving of 2023 I got to travel to meet CWD Hades. As they say it was love at first site. Kristine and Sal took the time to talk to me about anything and everything related to CWD Hades. I never felt rushed to just load the pup and go. I was even invited to go to the kennel grounds and walk around freely. What a great place for these pups. Not a need unmet there. K-9 Mission Rescue is all about the dogs, their health and welfare. I can't say enough good things about them.
If I am being honest there are no words worthy to describe this amazing rescue! Mission K9 saves the dogs whom are forgotten and allows families like my husband and I to have the honor of loving and spoiling them. We are honored to be able to give these special babies the retirement they deserve. My husband and I have had the honor of adopting 2 amazing dogs MWD Potter whom we lost January 6, 2023 to cancer and our current superhero K9 Kaiser. Loving these dogs is an honor and being part of Mission K9 has been a true blessing
I have known Kristen for almost 50 years. She pours her whole heart and soul into these dogs. I have never met someone whom is a strong advocate for these veterans. My family was blessed to adopt CWD Dino 2 from Mission K9 almost 6 years ago. Dino has been the most welcomed dog in our family! If ever you are looking for an organization to support, Mission K9 is it!
Over the years I have had the honor to provide a loving retirement home to 7 retired War Dogs adopted from Mission K9. The founders and staff of Mission K9 truly care what happens to these dogs and their unwavering commitment to brings dogs home when retired and reuniting them with former handlers or adopting them into loving homes is heartwarming. In November of 2023, I personally visited the Mission K9 Rescue ranch. Although I've seen pictures of the ranch, I wasn't prepared to be so impressed with their set up and operation. Everything is 100% about caring for the dogs in the manner they have earned and deserve.
All the dogs have extra large outdoor enclosures with trees, grass and shade. At night they sleep in a climate controlled building that also provides a cool place for the dogs to escape the heat of Texas as well as be out of rain or other weather.
There is an huge play yard for the dogs to have playtime in as well as they get time out of the enclosures for one on one time with a staff member to just feel loved and socialized.
On top of all that, the dogs get rotated into different enclosures to provide additional mental enrichment because these dogs may be retired, but they are still working dogs at heart.
I saw first hand the respect, love and care given to these dogs and it was simply amazing. Being involved in the War Dog community since 2013 I have to say there isn't another rescue that does what Mission K9 Rescue does for the retired working dog Heroes.
We adopted our beautiful CWD Astra from Mission K9 Rescue in 2018. Our former dog had been a retired MWD and we saw the need to help The four legged heroes, who keep our men safe. From the very beginning, we were so impressed with the meticulous care and vetting of adoptees, so that each dog would have the very best possible retirement. We drove to their facility in Magnolia Texas, and saw for ourselves how tirelessly their small staff worked for the well-being of their rescues. Post adoption, they stayed in touch and have built a relationship with each adopter and maintained contact. They rejoice and mourn with us through good and hard times when inevitably our hearts are broken by our loss. No sacrifice has been too great for them financially, physically, or mentally. I cannot say enough about the complete commitment and dedication they have.
I was fortunate to be able to adopt CWD Dutch. He is the nicest dog ever and a great companion. Mission K9 Rescue goes above and beyond to bring these service dogs back home and give them the retirement they deserve. These dogs have seen and been through so much while working and deserve to have a loving place to call home. The care and support Mission K9 Rescue gives to all of these dogs is admirable. They try to make sure no dog is left behind and give them any care they may need. This is the best nonprofit dog rescue around and I feel blessed I was able to adopt my beautiful dog, Dutch.
In 2018, I was paired with CWD Kugli by Mission K9 Rescue. He quickly became my best friend.
As time went by, Kristen & Louisa always responded quickly when I had questions, or Kugli had some issue. They put me in touch with one of Kugli's old handlers, which was a great help when I was trying to figure out why he did some goofy thing or another.
MK9R is a fantastic organization. They take great care of their dogs until they can be adopted out. They take even better care of the dogs, that, for medical or temperamental reasons, will have to stay with them for the rest of their lives.
Adopting an adult dog gets you past the difficult puppy stage, and as long as you keep in mind that your time together is shortened accordingly, you can still have several years of happy companionship, and the satisfaction of knowing you are giving your friend a comfortable, content retirement, after years of tough work.
I highly recommend MK9R if you are looking to adopt.

Mission K9 Rescue (MK9R) has been a reliable, trustworthy partner for retired military, law enforcement, and contract working dogs...and even some non-working dogs in need. As a professional in a very large government working dog community, I have never been disappointed when we've had to call on their services, and I've seen firsthand the impact they've made for our troops and officers. More importantly in this time of so many rescues not living up to standards of care, Mission K9 Rescue has. From firsthand observation on the management and handling of working dogs under their care, to un-announced visits to their kennel facilities - dogs live with care and compassion; they are clean, groomed, healthy, and given proper attention and enrichment, and the kennels and play yards are clean and sanitized. MK9R has necessary working dog knowledge and experience, successfully rehabilitating many dogs; they've replaced my worry of euthanasia several times with peace of mind! Mission K9 Rescue is one of only a few working dog rescues that I would recommend to anyone needing assistance with a retired or former working dog. Unlike big 'corporate rescues', MK9R operates with transparency and its evident that my donation dollars go directly to the mission as intended. No millionaire administrators here!
Mission K9 helped reunite my then husband with MWD Ronni, one of the Marine Corps Military Working Dogs he trained with while stationed in Hawaii. He’d been preparing to adopt his former K9 partner, but unfortunately he passed away before he was able to be retired. This left a huge hole in his heart until one day we saw Ronni on their website looking for former handlers wanting to adopt him. We reached out & Mission K9 delivered him to us 2 weeks later. Unbeknownst to us, Ronni had some slight behavioral issues we needed to work on from his 10.5 year job as a patrol/“bite” dog but the amazing people at Mission K9 were there for us the entire time! We were so blessed to have Ronni until 2 days shy of his 15th birthday. Everyone who met him loved him & once he quickly figured out retired life there was no one he didn’t love. I can’t begin to describe how fantastic Kristen, Louisa, & the other amazing people are with this much needed organization are! They give our hero K9’s the love & retirement they deserve after serving our country & keeping our troops safe! The world is a better place because of them.
I met the owners of this fabulous rescue in 2016.I also adopted CWD Kira April 17, 2021.
She came from a working kennel and was trained in explosives. Thanks to the great care from MK9 during her transition from her working place and being at the ranch of MK9, she was an easy adoption. They made sure she learned a new routine of daily life. They took care of her shots and all vetting. CWDKira is now 8 years young and is training with LAPD Therapy dog team. And being a 3 year cancer survivor myself, I love my time with her. From the first moment I watched a reunion of a MWD with their handler on TV that MK9 did, I knew I had to meet them and support them. They are the real deal. They spend mainly all the support money on the dogs. I will always support them .
Such a blessing to the MWD community! We had the honor of adopting a former breeder. The entire process was amazing and fast! The staff are awesome and you can tell they only want the best for their dogs! I would highly recommend adopting your next furbaby from Mission K9!
My amazing experienceswith Mission K9 rescue started many years ago, but last year really gave us a new point of view into how deep this organization cares for retired working dogs. We were lucky enough to hospice CWD Nelson. CWD Nelson was an explosives detection dog for a contract company in Afghanistan. When the withdrawal happened, Nelson was left behind at the airport, left to fend for himself with many other Contract Working Dogs that were refused access to departure. Nelson and the others fended for themselves. Locals left food on the airport grounds for them. He was finally rescued by KSAR and taken in for care. There, it was discovered that Nelson had testicular cancer. Mission K9 rescue arranged for his flight back to the US with another working dog that was left behind. He arrived at the Mission K9 Rescue Ranch and immediately was seen by a stateside Vet and his prognosis wasn't what they had hoped. Nelson didn't have long to live. He was expertly medically managed by their amazing staff at the Ranch. Mission K9 reached out for help giving Nelson a hospice home where he could experience a family, however brief. My husband and I offered Nelson a soft place to lay his head. He arrived a few days later and was absolutely the sweetest old man on planet earth. We discovered he was totally deaf on top of all his health issues. He was completely incontinent due to anal fistulas and testicular cancer. He had to wear a belly band 24/7. We spoiled Nelson with treats and he got to taste pizza, hamburgers, steak, donuts, and all kinds of great foods! He took walks with us on our horse ranch daily and became a member of our family. He was growing weaker as the weeks went on, but Nelson enjoyed just laying on his soft bed watching us work and do our ranch chores. We were blessed to spoil Nelson for the last month of his life. Mission K9 gave him the family he so deserved. They supported us eith his care all hours of the day and night. What Mission K9 rescue gave Nelson was PRICELESS. They will forever have our gratitude for always remembering our nations forgotten hero dogs! Here is to CWD NELSON, YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!!!
I love dogs. They are so intelligent, beautiful and sweet. In case of service dogs, especially K9 are always ready to sacrifice their own life for human. I feel gratitude and admiration for these dogs,
I have been making small donation monthly, plus extra when I can. I think war dogs should be brought home just as soldiers when their duty is done. So I am grateful that there are such organization as this that care truly about the dog, and do everything they can to bring them beck.
Not too long ago on a broadcasting news, I saw the president of this organization at an air port to meet the rescued dogs. I think she does many facets of work relating to the mission. Thank you Ms Kristen Mauer.
