Programs: Local and state competition - local competitions are held around the state where young women win scholarships and the right to move on to the state competition where they have the opportunity to win additional scholarships. The state competition culminates in competition week where all local winners compete in the five areas of competition and participate in a 3-evening production. At the close of the week, the highest scoring contestant is named miss north dakota as determined by independent judging panels. She wins the largest amount of scholarships and the right to represent north dakota in the miss america scholarship programs. All finalists win scholarships - the amount varies according to their placing at the competition.
