The MiraCosta College Foundation has helped me so much with my educational journey. The time from accepting the scholarship after you are awarded one and getting the check is really short wait. I always end up getting the scholarship checks earlier than I anticipated and am constantly surprised at how many scholarship opportunities there are. If I ever need help or assistance with applying there are so many resources. I have even gotten help the last day the scholarship application was due when I kept running into a problem.

It is simply amazing to watch The MiraCosta College Foundation help my fellow students in their academic pursuit. The team works tirelessly to ensure no one is denied access to higher education because of financial need. The genuine spirit of enriching students lives and in turn, each of us in the community, is a wonderful example to follow and truly inspiring. Bravo!

Mira Costa scholarships have made my educational goals a reality. With the help of these generous donations, I have been able to provide for myself to make life comfortable during the demanding years of college.

I am a recent immigrant and MiraCosta provided me with an opportunity to have more chance for getting into good university. The staff and faculty is friendly and they care about the students. I am scholarship recepient as well, which makes financial burden smaller.

I graduated from Mira Costa College in 1974 and received a scholarship to support my tuition and books. I have never forgotten the giving spirit of those that helped me. My degree at Mira Costa College allowed me to move on and get a Bachelor of Arts degree. My wife and I have chosen to help others just like ourselves by giving to various programs at the College. There is no greater feeling than to help others....its an investment......that has a very high return.

The MiraCosta College Foundation enabled me to receive a scholarship that relieved the financial pressure that comes with being a student. I also received a computer and printer through one of their programs that made it possible to work, go to school, and be able to do my homework at night when the library is closed.

As a non-traditional student returning back to college was very challenging. I am not only a non-traditional student returning back to college after 13 years I am also a mother of a ten-year old. Due to my decision to return back to college it has placed tremendous financial hardship on my family and if it wasn't for the Mira Costa College Foundation it would be extremely hard to make college a reality for me.

Listen, I am a mid-30s, financially struggling, unemployed, hardworking, determined, and dedicated college student. However, because of a few of those descriptors, I would have had to abandon school and taken ANY job that would have me (on more than one occasion). MCCF has helped me see my college quiet through, uninterrupted, to this point: an AA in Dramatic Arts, an AA in Automotive Technologies, a Certificate of Accomplishment in Automotive Technologies (with Highest Honors), and currently pursuing my Certificate in Business.

Frankly, I would have none of this yet without the MiraCosta College Foundation, the encouragement of its representatives, and the contributions of its donors!

As a mother of five it is hard to find time for myself let alone get an education. After all of my financial aid had ran out I was able to apply for a grant threw the Mira Costa Foundation, Osher scholarship which allotted me the moneys needed to pay for my books and motivate me to continue my education on-line at MiraCosta.

Without the wonderful donors and awesome foundation, I would have given up on my education a long time ago. I just received my Certificate of Accomplishment and was able to participate in graduation ceremonies of 2014. After years of hard work it was great to reach my goal. With the generous scholarship from the foundation, I am given the opportunity to excel in the field of Biotechnology. The scholarship allows me to take more courses to get my AA degree sooner. The staffs of the MiraCosta College foundation are so knowledge and helpful. They work very hard to raise funds for the scholarship programs . I was asked to share my student testimonial at the MCC Foundation's Silver & Gold Holiday Celebration in 2013; as a result, I have begun motivational speaking through-out North County San Diego. Also, I am a recipient of the Mort and Agatha Winski scholarship which has helped me tremendously! After receiving the scholarship I have been able to excel in the classroom and work less hours during finals. The MiraCosta foundation board is a joy to work with. The Director Linda Fogerson and her entire staff are engaged, and proactive in a way that makes board participation both fun and rewarding. The college is truly the cornerstone of the California College experience and making it possible for all students to participate in higher education is a great way of giving back to the community.

I am confident in the work the foundation puts forward in reaching fundraising goals and boosting student success. The Foundation has secured partnerships with corporations that are essential in meeting campaign and fundraising goals. They continue to turn out great work, and I look forward to their accomplishments this new academic year.

We set stretch goals every year due to the impact that our scholarships have on the community. Mira Costa College has helped many young people who would not have the opportunity to attend a college with out a hnad up.

I am so thankful for the Miracosta College Foundation for assisting me with financial support to reach my educational goals. I contemplated taking time off from school to meet my financial obligations, but thanks to the Miracosta College Foundation, I was able to spend more on my academics. I am now one semester away from earning my bachelors degree in Kinesiology: Exercise Science from Cal State Long Beach!

I have not received a scholarship through the Foundation, but my enrollment at MiraCosta allowed me to see the great work the office has done for students who have received scholarships. I have friends who without the help from the Foundation would not have been able to financially get through school. Scholarship funding promotes student success, which you can see in the numbers of students graduating each year.

They put an information booth at the Oceanside campus where I was told about scholarships and that helped me to don't get too far into debt with student loans. The scholarship online application was easy to fill out. Overall, they have been very helpful making it easy for me (a mother of a special needs son) to get the info I need about scholarships. MCC Foundation is amazing/genuine organization. I received a scholarship for my college expenses for Fall 2013. The Foundation really cares about making students successful and as the cost of secondary education rises it is more difficult to achieve those goals. I am a product of the Dust Bowl generation chronicled in John Steinbeck's book Grapes of Wrath. My parents were farmers from Oklahoma, who had been devastated by the drought and dust storms in the Midwest. We arrived in Bakersfield, California in 1938. I was 10 years old, the eldest of 3 children. We, the whole family, became migrant workers. We picked cotton, cut grapes, and picked fruit. The work was all piece work, which meant that what the children cut or picked added to the total income. My parents, being the children of farmers, were allowed to attend school, when there weren't crops to harvest or chores to be done. My father had about 3 years of elementary education. My mother did complete the 8th grade, which was as far as the one room prairie schools offered. Thus, they had no background to guide me about going to college. Not knowing what I wanted to do or become, I enrolled in the local Junior College, as this level was then called. I took vocational courses for almost 2 years. I planned to get my AA, get out, and get a job. One day, when I was in the library, May Louise Jones, the Librarian, and the wife of my favorite teacher, said "Knox, you should continue your education and get a 4 year degree". My reply was "Mrs. Jones, that would take another year or two of academic classes to get the required courses" Her response was "Time is going to pass whether you are in school or not". As simple as that statement was it convinced me that she was right. UCLA, was where my favorite teacher, Mr. Jones. had attended. In the fall of 1949 I had the number and required courses to transfer to UCLA as a junior in business administration. I graduated in June of 1951. I can say, without hesitation, that had I not had 3 and 1/2 years to "find myself" in a community college, I would never earned a 4 year degree. Much credit also goes to inspirational teachers like Mr. and Mrs. Jones, and many others like them who have a MAJOR IMPACT on the lives of first generational college students like me. My sister and brother also attended BJC. My sister graduated from San Diego State, now SDSU. My brother went even further, earned his Phd in Education at USC, and spent the last 17 years as a superintendent of schools in the Taft and Bakersfield area. We all agree, that this could never have happened had it not been for the community college experience! It is for these reasons, and many more, that I am proud to be a member of The MiraCosta College Foundation Board! Linda Fogerson, is our Executive Director. She had done an excellent job of building a great group of men and women as board members, and through them and her personal and staff efforts has increased the annual donations to the foundation by more than 3 Xs what it was when she took the position about 6 years ago. It is a joy and a privilege to work with her, her staff and the board members in our goals to provide scholarships and work towards the success of the students! Knox Williams

I am a full time student, part time student aid, and single mom. Going back to school for me at 40 was quite scary. But going through Mira Costa, and utilizing all of their services, I was able to obtain the help I need to succeed. I work really hard at my grades and was so pleased to be awarded a scholarship! This foundation has made my success all worth it by being able to have all of the necessary supplies & books. The scholarship definetely helped, and the way they go about it made me feel like a star. What a blessing to be able to work with the Mira Costa Foundation.

I had written mini grants from various sources to help get a foster youth component to my program started. After a couple of nickel and dime grants I was ready to rethink this component. Linda Fogerson and her staff stepped in and help secure a more sustainable grant and now we are serving more former foster youth who have timed out of the system and wish to attend college. They are an amazing group of professionals! Their work has freed me to concentrate on serving my most at risk students.

MiraCosta College has an award-winning theater department that I am proud to support. Giving to the foundation allows me to have an impact on a brilliant program that changes students’ lives and is a rich cultural resource for our community.

We are pleased to offer our financial support to this foundation. The tireless work put into fundraising and the feedback from students who have been recipients of scholarships, plus seeing results first hand has been very rewarding. The college’s theater department and its students are close to our hearts and we have earmarked some of our donations specifically to them. When we give to the foundation we know that our dollars go to an outstanding program and deserving students. We so appreciate that they keep us in the loop of what is going on at the college and give us many opportunities to support it in different ways. It is an honor to be part of what is going on at MiraCosta. We appreciate everyone who works at the foundation their time, effort and outreach.

I joined the Mira Costa Foundation Board during the past year. I find this organization very inspiring. They consistently demonstrate a sincere and active commitment to the academic programs and to improving the scholarships and other forms of support that contribute to students' success at the College and in life. I'm familiar with the fundraising and endowment-enhancing operations of larger institutions, and the MCF staff consistently demonstrates a high level of professional know-how and energy that would do justice to much bigger organizations. I am also impressed with the College's and the Foundation's commitment to information - based planning and decision making. In a setting where flying by the seat of the pants can be all too prevalent, Mira Costa's discipline and commitment to rigorous analysis is refreshing. Through volunteer work at a local social service agency I have gained a keen appreciation of just how important it is to have an affordable track to higher education for the most distressed youth in our community. The Mira Costa Foundation sees this need clearly and works tirelessly to provide the needed assistance.

The MiraCosta College Foundation has been a great help to me in achieving my academic goals. They helped me afford my tuition as well as introduce me to people working in my field. A scholarship I received from a local business through the foundation led to a summer internship and practical work experience. All of this was possible because of the generosity of the MiraCosta College Foundation and the hard work of the financial aid staff at MiraCosta College.

I really appreciated the help money-wise because it helped me continue to go to school and to have the supplies needed. But Iam truly thankful because I believed that someone very special without knwing me deposited their trust in my education.They made me feel special and trusted.

The Executive Director and staff at MiraCosta College Foundation are some of the most hard working and visionary people we have at the college. They see "the big picture" at all times and work diligently to integrate all that they do to leverage donated dollars for the most good. They have a focused interested in helping the college launch programs and projects that maximize human potential through their efforts to secure training and educational donations. My own department would be at a terrible disadvantage if it were not for the foundations assistance at every turn and their determination to help us with the funding necessary to grow programs that help put people back to work. They are part of what makes MiraCosta College a great institution.

I am sure that corporate partners are extremely important to MiraCosta College’s ability to strengthen the economic, cultural, social, and educational well-being of the communities it serves, and I have personally witnessed the foundation establish several deep and enduring relationships with area businesses. These relationships thrive because the foundation is able to articulate and honor the benefits to both the college and the corporate partner while they work together to make a difference in the lives of students and the wider community.

Without the gracefulness of donors and board members helping students such as myself to get education, I would not have the opportunity to be in school now. The MiraCosta College Foundation are doing remarkable things with unbelievable passion to helps students. Now that I am privileged to be successful through education, one day I might become a board member or a donor myself to continue these life changing opportunities like the MiraCosta College Foundation and other donors. I have personally benefitted from an endowment set up through the MiraCosta College Foundation. They have the students in mind and really want to help make college education possible. My parents established an endowed scholarship fund through the MiraCosta College Foundation because they believed in the college and the importance of supporting its students. Over the years, it has been my privilege and joy to add my financial support and to continue my parents’ legacy. My parents who lived in S. California enjoyed meeting the scholarship recipients so that they could see who their assistance was helping. My siblings and I who live far away have been fortunate to continue a tradition my parents established. The recipients are asked to share with us what the scholarship means to them. Almost without exception, they express heartfelt appreciation of the aid they received to complete their schooling, what they want to be, and even share their success in grades with us. Many times we continue to stay in touch well after they've completed their work at Mira Costa. As for the school, i've been extremely impressed at my parents choice of educational institutions. It's been our experience that the Scholarship and Foundation personnel are truly interested, concerned, and committed to helping the students make the most of their work and just getting through. I couldn't speak more highly of the administration and the job they do. I wish i was closer to visit and see it first hand but our experience from afar is the next best thing. Anyone wanting their contributions to make a difference, Mira Costa is a great bet.

The help that the MiraCosta College Foundation provides for students cannot be understated. The financial stresses of attending college are immese, and are compounded when one returns later in thier life. The Foundation helped me to alleviate these financial pressures, as no one wants to decide between buying books and paying rent . MiraCosta and their generous benefactors deserve a humongous thank you, seeing as they have been more than generous with their help. This cannot be said often enough.

As a Mira Costa Graduate/Alumni and now an undergrad at UC Berkeley, I can now look back and really appreciate how useful the Mira Costa College Foundation was and still is to my friends that are there now. The Mira Costa College Foundation was beneficial in many ways, the first being that it helped me with regards to my financial situation but also more importantly their end of the year/semester award ceremony provided a space to communicate with the donors and the other scholarship recipients. More so than the financial contribution of this foundation is the personable and relatable aspect that I believe this foundation emphasizes. People will graduate and will graduate with the help of the scholarship funds but what is more important is the people that you interact with and this foundation went above and beyond in both areas.

I am forever indebted by the foundation and the amazing leader who encourages us to reach for more. I did not expect a Scholarship;although, I meet all the requirments because of how unfortunate I have been. I have applied for workstudy to be refused because of financial cut backs, so when I won my first scholarship of $500 dollars a semster, it let me know that my efforts were not in vain and that I was being recognized. Thank you very much and people like me are able to continue with our Education no matter the financial burden thanks to this crucial foundation. This is a wonderful Foundation that is committed to helping students through scholarships and grants. They have been instrumental in raising their scholarship donations from $500 to $1,000, which is needed to pay for tuition, fees and books at a community college. Through their efforts, many students are able to continue and complete their education adding to a better educated workforce in San Diego.

It is my pleasure and honor to serve on this non-profit board of directors. The focus of the foundation is to support and serve the students, and I admire the commitment of the foundation to always keep this mission as the driving force for all that we do. Funding much needed scholarships is just one of the important things we do for the students and their overwhelming expression of gratitude validates the work that we do. I am proud to assist in all of the efforts to further the education and enhance the experience of the students.

My experience with the foundation has far exceeded my expecatations. The guidance and support they have given me has been a great motivator for me to push myself into reaching new goals. Being awarded a scholarship shows that there are others who believe in me and want to see me suceed. I am forever grateful to the MiraCosta Foundation.
