Minnie's Food Pantry rolls out the red carpet for everyone - the people they serve, the volunteers that donate their time and the donors who donate food and money. They are led by the fabulous Dr. Cheryl 'Action' Jackson who's passion for serving is contagious. The team ensures that every person who walks through the doors of the building are served with a smile and a hug. The now infamous chant of 'If you can't feed a hundred people, feed just one' says it all in a nutshell. No matter how big or small the difference is...they encourage everyone to just make A DIFFERENCE. And Minnie's does just that for thousands of families every year.

Volunteering at Minnie’s was a rewarding experience. The day I was there we helped 73 families by providing 3650 meals. Everything was well organized, and everyone was treated with care. I will definitely be volunteering again.

Volunteering at Minnie's Food Pantry was a 100% positive experience. There were so many volunteers and staff busily working to make life better for those less fortunate. Volunteers represent all ages, races, and ethnic groups as do the clients. Such of feeling of community! Minnie's runs like a well-oiled machine, yet every client was treated with individual respect . I saw personal attention being paid to everyone who was served. I smiled all the rest of the day after volunteering, and woke up with a smile on my face the next morning remembering the Minnie experience. What an "upper"! I can hardly wait to go back!

This is one organization that truly gives up to people. From the people who actually work there to all the volunteers, they make this experience so much fun. This is without a doubt the most welcoming group of people I have ever met. I so look forward to my days at Minnies!

Wow- it was truly an honor to serve with Minnies last week. I was blown away by their efficiency, humbleness, and authentic kindness. As soon as you walk through the door, a volunteer greets you with the biggest smile and truly makes you feel welcomed and a part of their mission! Another thing that I loved is that at the end of your service, they share the impact you made and how important your time spent is. I will definitely be back to serve!

Minnie's Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization that helps people that can’t afford food. It was founded on April 1,2008, by Dr. Cheryl Jackson. When I walked in the the first thing I saw was the red carpet leading us to the front desk. I wondered why there is a red carpet in a food pantry. Later during the orientation I learned that the red carpet was there so that the people that walk in there feel special. At first I thought the name Minnie was the founder's name. Minnie was Cheryl’s mother’s name. When her father died she wanted the world to know her name, so she started Minnie’s Food Pantry. During Cheryl’s life she had a hard time providing food for her family. She applied for food stamps but had a little too much money. She found a job that helped get enough money to do what she needed to do. Minnie’s Food Pantry receives no government support and is 100% community funded. They have been featured on: The Food Network’s documentary, Hunger Hits Home, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, The Talk and The Steve Harvey Show, amongst others.
I had a good time volunteering there. Since I wasn't older than 13 I couldn't do the things the older people were doing. Instead I decorated paper bags for children my age and younger, who don’t have that much food. On the bags we wrote bible verses, prayers, “Have a Great Day!”, and we drew many things. After that we filled the bags with milk, granola bars, fruit snacks, and crackers. Then we filled “Day Labor Bags.” Day Labor Bags are bags with premade food in them. They are for people who work but don’t get paid. In them we put water, juice, mac & cheese, canned sausages, crackers, granola bars, and fruit snacks. I wondered how they were going to eat the mac & cheese. Then they told me the people can just walk up to the nearest 7 Eleven to get hot water. Then we cleaned the whole place by sweeping the floors, picking up trash, mopping the floors, wiping the tables and the chairs, and rearranging everything to make the place look nice.
This was a very nice opportunity. When I was there, there were people who volunteer there every week! This was my first time volunteering there but probably not my last time. It made me realize how lucky I am to have food on my table everyday. These people they are serving don’t have anything. I think it’s nice for people to spend their time helping the least fortunate. The work of mercy I chose was feed the hungry. I chose this because I wanted to help those who are less fortunate then I am. I didn’t see any hungry people when I was there, but some of the other volunteer’s did. I had a really nice time there, and everybody was so nice. Everyone there had such a big heart, devoting their time for those in need. On Saturday mornings I spend my time on my phone this time I actually did something to help people. I really do recommend volunteering at Minnie’s Food Pantry.

CalTech volunteered at Minnies Food Panty this week and it was an awesome experience! It was so organized it made us want to come back! We are trying to figure out when we can come back and do it again! Lynette and her whole team were great leaders and have done an outstanding job streamling their process! I volunteered on last Friday, and Minnie's treats every member of the society with so much care and compassion. I enjoyed every minute volunteering at this location, and I felt that I was able to make a difference in the community. One of the best non profits in the DFW area for sure.

Focus is on helping families, veterans and other people in need in the community with a variety of resources. Food of course being one, and a lot of food passes thru that facility, but also with training on finances and how to prepare meals with the food received. Also, there are clothing items, books, and other sundry items. The staff is beyond nice, they are family to these people. I was impressed and will be volunteering agian
