Causes: Arts & Culture, Cultural & Ethnic Awareness
Mission: Misca promotes cultural and citizen exchanges between the cities of minneapolis, minnesota and ibaraki city, japan. Among these are youth sports exchanges, language study groups, art exchanges between each cities schools, haiku poetry contests, hosting of city officials from ibaraki and programs to educate citizens of minneapolis about the its sister city, ibaraki, japan.
Programs: Promoted and organized haiku contest for students of minneapolis public schools. Entries were first judged by board members of misca (approximately 1000 entries). 120 entries were sent to ibaraki japan for final judging. Winners were given certificates and a small gift from ibaraki during a ceremony at the downtown central library in minneapolis in april
held seventh annual cherry tree festival in may on nicollet island to promote sister city relationship. Had attendance of between 50 and 60 people this year.
