As an Army wife and Family Readiness Group Leader I have worked in conjunction with the Military Family Support Center for the past two and a half years. They have always exceeded my expectations. Helping plan and organize military family days, helping secure speakers, and donating food and toys for our events. They have also helped people within my unit and others in financial hardships. The staff has always been friendly and professional so when I had the opportunity to begin volunteering here I was very eager to help! I have been working here for three months now and I love the work that we do for our local military and their families. I have had a great time supporting such events as our Baseball Military Appreciation Nights with the local ball parks as well as different fundraisers for local units and community events.
I interned with the Military Family Support Center while in college and worked there for a while afterwards. They are small and privately funded, but do everything they can to serve those who are in the Guard or the Reserve as well as any member of our military stationed away from usual military installations. They help with food, home and car repairs, and provide information and contacts to help with many other needs. They operate primarily out of Virginia, but are branching out, having helped many people in other states. They are worth contacting to see what they can do for you. Also, for any donors out there: I can tell you that this is not one of those nonprofits where most of your money will go to payroll. The people who work there do so because they genuinely want to help the military families.
