Mission: To promote excellence in midwifery education through accreditation of midwifery education programs.
Programs: During the 2017-18 fiscal year, the midwifery education accreditation council (meac) received a three year renewal of recognition by the us department of education as an accrediting agency. Meac provided accreditation services for 11 schools engaged in the education and training of midwives, such schools serving 812 students. Our accreditation activities included review and evaluation of 3 compliance reports, 13 monitoring reports, 2 substantive change applications, 4 initial applications or intents to renew, and 2 self-evaluation reports. Meac granted renewals of accreditation to 2 schools, and removed probationary status from 2 other schools. Meac also approved one substantive change to offer degree-granting. Meac processed 101 continuing education unit applications. Program outreach activities included attendance by various meac officers and board members at national midwifery meetings and conventions, for collaboration with other members of allied midwifery organizations. Additionally, meac paid annual dues to the association of specialized professional accreditors, and the academic collaborative for integrative health.
