Causes: Community Foundations, Philanthropy
Mission: Our mission is to provide philanthropic leadership to strengthen our community by fostering collaboration and giving today and in the future. Since 1973, midland area community foundation has provided an avenue for individuals and organizations to change the community through philanthropic giving. Macf awards grants and scholarships, offers the ability for individuals and families to invest in the community, and serves as a catalyst for collaboration and change by leading community dialogue and action on critical issues.
Programs: The foundation provides community service and support by providing grants to 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, municipalities, and educational institutions as well as initiating projects designed to enhance and benefit the community. In 2017, the foundation made grants to 217 organizations throughout the united states, with the majority located in the midland area. Grants span the breadth of all that makes for a vibrant area including arts, community, education, environment, health and human service, recreation, and youth. The grants are designed to fulfill the foundations mission of providing philanthropic leadership to strengthen our community by fostering collaboration and giving today and in the future.
during 2017, the foundation provided 340 scholarships to 275 recipients to assist them with furthering their education whether toward a certificate, skilled trades training, two year college, four year college or graduate/professional training. New this year was a scholarship program, combined with mentoring, for first generation economically disadvantaged students. Scholarships help with the foundation's focus on promoting post-secondary enrollment and completion for area residents.
the foundation supports many projects/events throughout the community. These projects are designed to enhance the quality of life. In 2017, some of the major projects included the tridge renovation project, downtown streetscape, public art & beautification, santa house, riverdays, midland county youth action council, midland county violence prevention partnership, whiting overlook park, cultural awareness, access to recreation, senior christmas dinners, midland county career and college access network, give local midland, scholarships, town grants, non- emergency medical transportation project, collaborative efforts such as the community health improvement plan and the community health survey, and the midland believes scholarship.
