Middleton Outreach goes above and beyond when it comes to creating a welcoming, comfortable, safe environment for individuals to go to and receive assistance - whether its food needs, housing assistance or the numerous other services offered to the community. Ellen is one of the best, and her team runs a very wonderful operation that feels more like an extended family than an organization providing assistance to those in need.
MOM is a leader in the community, providing critical services to neighbors facing food and housing insecurity. Throughout the pandemic MOM has been responsive to constantly shifting needs, creatively identifying solutions to help families avoid hunger and homelessness.
This place exudes care and kindness. I am a longtime financial supporter and 5-year volunteer with Middleton Outreach Ministry. As a volunteer in many programs (Winter Wishes, Drive Up Food Distribution, Thanksgiving Food Distribution) I get to personally witness my dollars being used wisely to directly support clients with great care and unfailing commitment to dignity. This agency is about more than food, clothing and housing support (although these are provided freely). Clients are nurtured with kindness and respect. Staff members serve tirelessly to provide the highest level of services. I’m humbly honored to support MOM!
I have chosen Middleton Outreach Ministry as my favorite place to donate for many years, and have been a volunteer there for four years. It’s awe inspiring to watch the staff and volunteers here work. They are humble heroes, rolling up their sleeves to serve a grateful population that has nowhere else to turn. Services are provided to clients with dignity and respect for each individual. I currently work checking in each client car for food box distribution, and have the pleasure and honor of hearing directly from clients that they feel cared for and seen. MOM believes in respect, equality and advocacy. I’m so proud to serve this organization, and can’t recommend it highly enough.
I have volunteered at MOM's for 9 years. I have enjoyed all nine years and MOM's has always made me feel valuable and needed. I have worked in a number of area's. I currently am working with the Food Distribution and Seniors Programs. The job I enjoy most is driving clients to appointments in the Seniors Program. This would include health care needs, grocery shopping, banking needs, Post Office, library, beauty salons, senior centers to mention a few. The clients are always so thankful for the help with their transportation needs. This program is so valuable, because the majority of our clients don't have the means to pay for cabs or other forms of transportation services. All this at no cost to them! MOM's is a wonderful and needed provided for seniors.
Senior Programs Driver
I can’t say enough positive remarks about the work, commitment and impact MOM provides to our greater community. They are a generous partner and supporter of the MCPASD Education Foundation and countless others. Thank you for all you do!!
I have seen Middleton Outreach Ministry (MOM) grow and adapt to changes over many years, and coping with the Covid pandemic has been no exception. MOM has continued to serve those in need in our community without skipping a beat while at the same time keeping staff, volunteers, donors and clients as safe as possible. It's a pleasure to volunteer at and donate to an organization that strives to "create food security and housing stability" in our community.
I have been involved with M.O.M. for nearly 16 years, in the capacity of donor, board member, food pantry volunteer, and driver for the seniors program. I have seen the organization change and grow with the need on the west side of Madison and Middleton, but the one thing that remains is the passion the staff, volunteers and donors have for those in need in our area. I have heard firsthand from those we serve how grateful they are for the compassion and services that M.O.M. offers during some difficult times. I have seen people's lives improve to the point they no longer need us, and that is the best outcome of all. M.O.M. also offers the community a place to give back and feel connected to their neighbors.
they started a program during Covid, called Senior Calls and I live alone and am more of an extrovert, and working from home, so I missed having human connections daily from going into the office. I volunteered to make the calls and was connected with a very nice senior, we have talked every week (almost) since the program started and we both look forward to our calls. We feel a human connection and feel like we know about each others families and just enjoy our conversations. Thank you for starting this program, it is definitely a win-win for me.
Mom had partnered with MCPASD Education Foundation to provide personal hygiene items to our students. They go above and beyond. So caring.
I started volunteering at MOM by covering at the front desk every other week. When MOM hired a full-time person to handle those duties, I transitioned to working in the food pantry and occasionally driving seniors to various appointments and delivering food during the pandemic.
I have loved interacting with the dedicated staff and other volunteers, as well as the clients. MOM provides such valuable services to the community, and the volunteer opportunities are so varied. It has been such a rewarding experience for me.
M.O.M is my favorite charity in Wisconsin. It helps all people in need through creative, supportive and beneficial programs for those living with food and housing security.
When it's time to donate to a charity, every group that I am part of, chooses to support M.O.M. for their importance in our community and their ability to help others in need.
This is simply a remarkable and so needed organization, helping so many thousands of clients in their service area, nearly 50% of which are kids. Lean, efficient, and simply-stated: Superheroes of our community!
As a community member, I have been witness to the absolute power and impact that MOM provides. I am a contributor, donator, Board and Committee Member. MOM is essential in the area in which it operates and I think is the gold standard for what this survey is intended to research. Thank you!
I have been volunteering for Middleton Outreach Ministry's Food Distribution Center for 15 years. I continue to be impressed with the staff and volunteers . I receive much more than I give when I show up for my shift. It is a blessing to be part of an organization that believes "it is better to light a candle than curse the darkness." They truly are a beacon of hope for our community.
In this time of uncertainty from COVID-19, food insecurity remains a critical issue affecting many families in the Middleton and west side of Madison areas. MOM plays an important role in helping to alleviate some of the need by providing direct relief and food to families. I was able to participate in this endeavor first-hand as a volunteer. With a line of clients waiting in cars outside the distribution center, I worked in a team of three to load boxes of food into the cars of clients. I also collaborated with an assembly line of volunteers to fill grocery carts with items requested by clients. I highly recommend volunteering at MOM due to its warm environment and positive impact in ameliorating food insecurity.
I have been volunteering for MOM for about 5 years and continue to be impressed with the staff and the huge volunteer following they have built. Their programs provide a comprehensive safety net for those in need in our community.
My daughter and I volunteer at MOM through our National Charity League Chapter. Out of all the places we volunteer, MOM is one of our favorites. It is an amazing place that continually strives to provide food, clothing and services to community members in need. Everything about MOM from the volunteers to the clients is beautifully run and always done so with the utmost respect to everyone involved. It is always a pleasure to volunteer at MOM and see all sorts of clients smiling faces and the impact the organization has on their lives.
I've been a MOM volunteer since February 2005. It's really been an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I do data entry in the main office, so I don't interact directly with the clients very often; I mostly work with the staff and other volunteers. By doing data entry, I've learned about the many programs that MOM has in place to help clients.
I think it's important to help people in need, especially during the current pandemic. And MOM is there to help with food, or financial assistance for housing, or whatever is needed. I think MOM makes our community stronger and a better place to live. I'm happy to contribute to our community by volunteering at MOM.
I have been volunteering at MOM since December of 2013. It has been such a joy to go there each week! I enjoy spending time with the other staff members and volunteers there. In addition, it makes me really happy to know that I am helping those in need. Middleton Outreach Ministry does so much for people in need, and it is wonderful to volunteer for such a caring organization.
I have been a volunteer at MOM since 2011. It has been a very rewarding experience. I am so impressed with the respect MOM shows for clients and how supportive they are of volunteers. The services MOM provides for clients are critical ; even more important though is the kindness shown to them by staff and volunteers. MOM is a great organization and deserves it's outstanding reputation in the community.
As a Middleton Outreach Ministry volunteer for the past 14 years, I have been fortunate to work with the wonderful staff members who give support and comfort to MOM clients in times of need. During these stressful Pandemic times, Middleton Outreach is offering drive-up boxed food distribution as well as continued financial assistance. School supplies were distributed in a modified program, and clients may also receive Thanksgiving baskets again this year.
I am proud to contribute in some small way to an organization that is truly a faithful example of community service. Middleton Outreach Ministry continues to far exceed expectations!
As a volunteer at Middleton Outreach Ministry, I have been fortunate to work with the wonderful staff members who strive to give support and comfort to MOM clients who are in need of food, housing, clothing or financial assistance. Clients find hope and comfort in knowing that the Middleton Outreach Ministry organization is there for them. Middleton Outreach Ministry is a true and faithful example of community service. I am very proud to contribute, in some small way, to this outstanding organization.
I moved to the Madison area 4 years ago. Having volunteered in the past, I was looking for an organization to be a part of . I got so many recommendations from my family that was already down here to check out MOMS, where they had all been involved. It was an amazing experience from my interview to the training, and actual volunteering. I worked the front desk, individual events(back to school, Craft Fair, Art Fair), but best was working directly with the clients in the Food Pantry. I have met so many wonderful people and heard stories of lives I could not begin to imagine. They have given me so much more than I could ever give them. I look forward to seeing clients week after week. MOMS provides support with respect and dignity, no judgement, only care. The case managers are so patient and sensitive with those they meet with, doing everything they can to meet their needs. I am thankful to be a part of such a worthwhile organization.
I moved to Madison recently and was looking for a place to volunteer. 3 separate people recommended MOMS.
I work in the food pantry and am blessed every week. The volunteers and the clients I encounter are outstanding. I get so much more than I give. The clients are so appreciative of what MOM offers in benefits and support and kindness.
The organization is well run. Al Ripp was an amazing and selfless man whose work continues.
I am proud to be a part of this nonprofit.
I became involved at MOM over 5 years ago through work. We have a team of volunteers that volunteers weekly in the food pantry. We have expanded our involvement and regularly participate in other events throughout the year - Back to School, Winter Wishes, various drives for needed goods (like laundry detergent, or hats/mittens/scarves). We love supporting these programs that help individuals in our community. Coronavirus has hit segments of our community hard (those who work in restaurants, concert halls, theatre venues, etc). Without the support of MOM, it would be hard for some to feed their family or get school supplies. MOM is an awesome organization and does so much for our community!
I have been a volunteer with MOM for a couple of years now and have consistently found the organization to be highly effective in accomplishing its mission. I volunteer in the food pantry (and have donated as well), so my experience has been helping feed people who might otherwise go hungry. This has continued during the pandemic with MOM designing a food delivery program that protects clients, volunteers, and staff alike.
The staff at MOM are strong, dedicated, and caring people. They have done an excellent job of organizing and running the pantry, especially during these challenging covid times. One of the measures of MOM's effectiveness is the pantry's sizable numbers of volunteers. The fact that there are so many of us, and that many have been volunteering for years speaks volumes about how well run MOM is. Volunteers don't tend to stay where they don't feel their efforts are making a difference. I say all this having spent a career of several decades working in the non-profit world. I understand the difference between impactful organizations and those that are not. MOM is without question one of the impactful ones.
I have volunteered at M.O.M for 2 years. It is an established organization with a great staff and hundreds of volunteers. It is nice to see how well our local providers supply us with the basic items People and Families need to help them through a challenging period. M.O.M. adapted to serving in the Covid environment moving to a drive up model with no interruptions in service.
When I retired, I was looking for a volunteer opportunity where I could give back to the community. My wife suggested that I should investigate Middleton Outreach Ministry. I'm glad I did, because I have found that it does so much for those in need. I have now volunteered at MOM for over 10 years. My primary responsibility is working in the food pantry to receive and organize the donated food a couple mornings each week. I continue to be amazed by the dedicated group of volunteers who put in the hard work to insure that the food pantry operates efficiently. And our efforts are thoroughly rewarded. I cannot tell you how many times each week that I hear words of thanks from the clients that we serve -- it really makes your heart feel good.
I am impressed with the wide scope of people in the community that MOM helps from the elderly to children. They touch the lives of people in need and also the volunteers lives. Together we make the community better.
I started volunteering at MOM in the Fall of 2019. At first I worked at the clothing center. Then the pandemic hit, and services were interrupted. I starter working at the food pantry 'covid-system' in late spring, all throughout the summer and I continue now. It is rewarding work. The organization is excellent; everyone is committed to their work, open, respectful, dedicated. I look forward to every shift.
Over past 7 years I’ve had the honor to volunteer at MOM. I’ve had several roles, & each role has importance. I feel MOM does wonderful work making a difference in ALL lives! MOM offers an equal opportunity for all who need assistance! My favorite part is getting to see our clients on a regular basis!
I have been volunteering on and off at Middleton Outreach Ministry for many years. I am proud to be a part of this organization and frequently recommend it to others who are looking for volunteer opportunities. My favorite experiences have been interacting face-to-face with clients and developing personal relationships. I have found the clients are so grateful and appreciative for all MOM has to offer. The importance of getting rides to appointments, shopping at the food pantry or clothing center or getting help with yard work or assembly of a piece of furniture has become very obvious to me. I feel I'm part of something that is making a huge difference in the lives of many. MOM rocks!!
I have been a volunteer for over a year now, and find it very fulfilling to help our clients obtain nutritious meals for nothing! The food quality is great, the clients are appreciative, the staff and volunteers are wonderful. A great opportunity to come together in the community and be a real source of help, especially during this time of Covid-19.
I am a volunteer at MOM, Middleton Outreach Ministry. I'm very impressed with the programs Mom offers and the extra efforts staff and volunteers make to support each and every client. I volunteer most of my time with the food pantry and truly enjoy working with everyone, including the staff, other volunteers, and the clients. Its like we are one big family helping one another. Each day is different and very interesting with lots of laughs.
Many thanks to MOM staff and the volunteers for all they do!
I started volunteering at MOM at the first of this year. I had moved from Chicago and was looking for a new volunteering home. The process to begin volunteering was easy and I felt immediately welcome to the group. I was well trained to work as a Client Host to help clients pick their food allotment in a pantry setup store. This experience as if in a real store getting to pick their own food gives respect and dignity to clients. It was nice to see many regular volunteers and the close interactions they had with the clients. The clients seemed to brighten each time they were engaged in conversation. Of course no conversation of 2020 would be complete without a discussion of the reactions around COVID. MOM was quick to move to a safer interaction method for volunteers and clients to distribute food. The rapid change resulted in just trying to get any food out we could. This resulted in a fixed distribution of items - no choices. It was a reasonable change but clients were still dismayed at the lack of customizations or the items missing they were used to getting. As the new distribution process became ironed out, MOM constantly found ways to include more and more options for clients. Clients seem much happier having that choice back. I think going that extra mile to give clients that freedom again in this environment is amazing.
MOM has continually evolved to meet the needs of clients in the last 10 years that I have volunteered here. Those who come here for help feel valued and respected by client hosts and the professionals who work here. Volunteers are also well trained and nurtured in their roles. Many of my fellow volunteers have been helping out at the pantry for 10 or more years and have gotten to know the clients and their family members on a first name basis. That commitment is a direct result of the positive, respectful environment found here. Clients who have received services at other locations often tell us how much they appreciate the warm welcome they get here. We also receive tremendous support from the Middleton/Cross Plains communities but the needs continue to grow
I love the dedication to community engagement the wonderful folks at MOM bring. They are just the best!
I'm so glad MOM is in our community! I love that this organization is seeking to provide dignity, not just hunger relief to our neighbors
I first came into contact with MOM 18 years ago. I was in a bad place financially, mentally and emotionally. Financially, MOM helped me find housing, helped with my security deposit, provided me with food from the food pantry. But MOM helped me with something that lasted much longer than the apartment, the security deposit or the food. MOM helped me find my self-respect again. They helped me find the courage to leave an unhealthy relationship and find my independence, but most of all they gave me hope. Nearly 2 decades later, I am a successful professional. I own my own home and have raised two amazing daughters. I owe all of my success to MOM; had they not been there with a helping hand when I needed it most who knows where I would be now. When you work with MOM you're not just a number, you are treated with dignity and respect and are not made to feel as if you are less than. Any time I encounter somebody in the community who is struggling I make sure to tell them about MOM and their services.
I am involved with many non-profits in Dane County, and MOM is certainly at the top. From the staff, to the volunteers, and to the measurable results, MOM deserves recognition as Top-Rated Non-Profit.
I have been a volunteer at Middleton Outreach Ministry for over 10 years. I have helped to support the organization as a client host, front desk receptionist and data entry volunteer. The clients at MOM are supported by a caring and compassionate staff who work diligently to provide food security, clothing and financial assistance to prevent homelessness. MOM is a highly respected organization in the community who provides help and hope for people experiencing difficult circumstances and I am proud to be able to be a part of its mission.
All of my interactions with MOM staff has been very positive. I'm so impressed with their work in the community.
Middleton Outreach Middleton provides much needed services (food, clothing, and housing support) to clients, and meets their needs with compassion and dignity. MOM is always striving to respond to the community and adapt to best serve our most vulnerable neighbors. We are lucky to have them in our community!
I can’t stay enough good things about the MOM program. Their outreach services are a big part of what makes Middleton, Wisconsin such a great place to live for people of all walks of life, rich or poor.
MOM is a great organization that provides a more holistic approach to services, which is a great benefit to their clients. Having access to case managers and financial assistance, as well as the food pantry and clothing center in the same location, means the clients don't have to make multiple trips!
I do Foodshare outreach at Middleton Outreach Ministry and I always enjoy my time there. They are unique in there ability to meet their community's needs and always strive to be innovative in the ways they serve their community. It's a always a pleasure to be on site and serve their community and work with the folks that make it a special place.
I volunteer in the food pantry - taking clients through. Scheduling of volunteers is very coordinated. Emails are great to know when help is needed. Scheduling system easy to use. Friendly staff - always feel welcomed and appreciated.
I was so impressed with MOM when I began volunteering. It is amazing what they are able to accomplish. It was a bonus to meet wonderful people, volunteers and clients.
This organization does great things in Middleton, Cross Plains and greater west Madison. The food pantry is a community asset and it is a leader in keeping people in their homes and preventing homelessness.
I have been volunteering at MOM for the past several months, and I have enjoyed every minute of it. The staff and other volunteers at MOM are caring and compassion people eager to help MOM’s clients as well as each other. I have been very impressed with how much MOM does for its clients and the understanding and respect they show to all of them. MOM’s dedication to improving the lives of its community members in need is the reason I chose to volunteer at MOM and will continue to do so.
I became involved with MOM approximately six years ago as a front desk volunteer. I'd heard very positive comments about this organization, and felt it would give me some perspective on challenges faced by those less fortunate. It was immediately apparent the people who direct MOM are totally committed to helping people in need.
Clients are treated with respect and kindness, no matter what the situation is. The actions of the MOM team help them keep their dignity. Every effort is made to support the clients whether it be food, clothing, housing, providing rides for seniors or other basic needs. The Case Managers are familiar with community services and help clients find affordable housing or work with utility companies when they fall behind in their payments.
It still amazes me how much is accomplished by a small MOM staff, its Board of Directors and hundreds of volunteers who want to provide help anywhere it's needed. I'm honored to be both a volunteer and donor to this amazing organization.
After volunteering for Middleton Outreach Ministries for just over one year now, I can say with great enthusiasm that it it one of the best non-profit organizations I have ever been involved with. The programs there are very well designed, well managed, and well implemented by an amazing group of very dedicated and very well trained staff and volunteers who are as professional as they are compassionate! The services provided by MOM are essential to everyone in the community!
As a Board Member, I have been consistently impressed with the leadership and vision of the MOM team. They think creatively about how to best meet the needs of their clients with respect. MOM provides crucial help to families in our area - food, clothing, and other resources as needed.
I have volunteered at MOM for many years. I have served in various capacities: reception, food pantry, rides for seniors, the Board of Directors and the school backpack program. I am proud of MOM and it’s mission. Seeing it grow into a model service agency has been wonderful. It is heartwarming to see firsthand the difference MOM has made in others lives. I tout MOM, it’s staff, and it’s volunteers every chance I get.
I was a volunteer at MOM for 3 years when my kids were little. This organization helps their clients reach food and housing security, but also empowers its volunteers. Those volunteers are the heart and soul of MOM. They keep the physical plant well stocked and very clean. They also greet each client with courtesy and compassion, helping everyone to feel accepted at MOM.
I have been a volunteer at M.O.M. (Middleton Outreach Ministry) for 18 years, volunteering in the food pantry, mobile food pantry, Seniors Program, and board of directors. I have seen the organization grow into its mission of ending hunger and preventing homelessness in our area. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the community through M.O.M. I can't imagine what life would be like here without M.O.M.
It is heartwarming to see how many people are helped at Middleton Outreach Ministry. This organization is vital to the community. People can get the help they need, whether it be food or clothing, whenever they need it. I am humbled to have the opportunity to serve here.
Extremely well-run operation characterized by energy, compassion and an incredible focus on clients and the community. There is an extraordinary level of support from staff, volunteers and donors and a clear belief in the mission of preventing homelessness and ending hunger in the community.
I have seen the positive impact that MOM has had on children and families for the past 27 years as an administrator in the Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District. MOM's services provide the basic needs that many families do not have on their own. It is an honor to support and serve MOM and its mission to prevent homelessness and end hunger. Please join in making a difference in our community.
I have had the privilege of working with the MOM team in strategy work and more recently as a member of the Finance Committee that supports MOM's ED and Board. The mission of MOM is complex and diverse and challenging in many ways. The MOM Team under the leadership of the former ED Al Ripp and the current ED Ellen Carlson has always impressed me with their deep commitment, caring focus, and unbelievable passion for the families of our community. The client needs are addressed at a human level, while the long term community and Organizational needs are well cared for at their larger levels. The MOM team is exceptionally adept at balancing these often opposing perspectives. Additionally, I love how deeply integrated MOM is in our community...local events, community, volunteerism, and public-private make MOM a resource of Middleton as a whole community, not just a service for those in need. MOM makes Middleton Better.
I first got connected to MOM several years ago when I was serving as the director of a women's group at a local church. I connected several families who were struggling to obtain food and pay rent connect with MOM. I saw firsthand the importance of the services MOM provided to members of the community. And I was impressed by how they carried out those services. They treated people with dignity. Their caseworkers were knowledgeable and worked tirelessly to help families make a better life. Now serving on the Board of Directors, I see up close how the organization is run. The staff approaches their work strategically and deliberately, keeping up to date on the latest research of how to be most effective in helping families in our community. They are committed to making a difference - and I continue to see them doing just that.
I have been continually impressed by MOM's willingness to allow their program funds to be used in creative and innovative fashion to meet their clients' needs. MOM assists over 200 families annually through various housing initiatives and reduces the incidents of homelessness in our community and they bring well over 100,000,000 pounds of food annually to over 1500 hungry families.
My relationship with MOM spans many years and includes programs through my church and work. Through church we collaborate with MOM for food drives and school supply drives. At work we've participated in the Canstruction program and Sharing Christmas where we adopt a family as a company. My company, Strang Architects, Engineers and Interior Designers is proud to be associated with such a great organization and we know all of our donations are put to good use serving the needy in our community.
Love the architectural creations using cans of food I saw at the mall on a number of occasions! The great minds associated with MOM, Inc., are only outdone by their tremendous heart. Awesome...way to make your corner of the world a better place. Kim.
As a board member, I have seen the difference that the staff and volunteers of Middleton Outreach Ministry make in serving the Madison and Middleton communities with an array of needed services for individuals and families through their deep passion and heart-felt desire to make a difference in peoples lives.
I am a volunteer and donor because MOM was founded by members of the community for members of the community. We've helped those in need for 35+ years. It's about being there when our neighbors are in need. I take pride in making a difference. #GoodNeighbor
I love volunteering for MOM. They matched my skills and available hours with their needs, which makes it a perfect relationship. I've made so many new friends in MOM staff and fellow volunteers. I've learned so much... about those in need and what impacts them the most. I feel like I'm truly making a difference in my community.
I consider MOM to be a valuable community partner. Their food pantry, backpack giveaway event, and mobile food pantry programs are incredible. I often collaborate with the Distribution Center Manager on various projects and donations and all have been rewarding experiences. Likewise, all of the MOM staff and volunteers I have come in contact over the past few years have always been extremely professional, innovative, generous and helpful. MOM is an indispensable resource many people depend on for essential supplies but also one that provides many volunteer opportunities for members of the community. I feel lucky to actively collaborate with the Middleton Outreach Ministry staff and look forward to future endeavors.
I am a Community Social Worker with Joining Forces for Families that shares an office with MOM. This is a well organized, thoughtful, and generous resource for the community. I have partnered with MOM social workers with families and it has ALWAYS been efficient and helpful. I don't know what we would do without this valuable resource!
