It has been 14 years since I started as a volunteer with MAHR. I supported them then and I continue to support their efforts today. As a thoroughbred owner/advocate I am proud of the work they do to assist tbs off the track and work to get them adopted to new homes in new careers. Bev Strauss is an superb horsewoman who works with the horses after their racing days have ended. Some need time to be let down and some require special care. Bev's placement knowledge allows for positive outcomes for these horses. She is humble and very dedicated. She pulled a horse many years ago from the kill pen for another rescue that I still own today. He and I are grateful to her every day. He is now 20. MAHR- keep up the great work! TAA and GFAS accredited too! Huge plus!
Somehow Bev got me a mare who has exactly my personality. I really loved the way MidAtlantic Horse Rescue took the time to answer all my questions, show me the mare and talk to me about my wishes for a future with my horse. The website and Facebook pages are kept up to date and interesting. I am more than pleased by the service this rescue performs.
MidAtlantic Horse Rescue is a true rescue run by highly dedicated and skilled horsewomen and men. From the initial contact in the kill pens to the handing over of an adoptee, each horse is individually assessed, treated, restored and rehomed with careful consideration. It is important for them to make sure each horse is properly placed so that both horse and new owner are happy. There are numerous success stories including my own daughter who rides one of the first horses to pass through. Bev, Mid Atlantic's tireless director, is honest and open and goes the distance for all of the horses. We will seek a horse here in the future!
We adopted an OTTB from MAHR and couldn't be happier with him. It has been almost a year and the folks at MAHR are still in touch and give advise with any questions. We enjoy and trust everyone at MAHR so much that we are working with them again to give our current MAHR a partner in crime.
Saving race horses from kill pens is admirable. This organization can not save them all, but for the one's that they do, it makes all the difference. To rescue more, funds are essential to sustaining making a difference.
I adopted the most wonderful horse from MAHR! The great people here rescue a lot of horses. After the horses have had a full medical review, they are let down for an appropriate amount of time, then slowly brought back to discover their potential as a sport horse. Every adoptor is carefully matched to the horse that best suits him/her and the people at MAHR are readily available should future help be needed. MAHR supports the thoroughbred racing industry by actively showing that thoroughbreds can have wonderful second careers. Many, many people have found their dream horse at MAHR...I know I did!
Bev and her fantastic crew work tirelessly in their efforts to keep all TB's safe... From slaughterhouse bound to race track retirees, those who need downtime either physically or mentally can find refuge with the MidAtlantic Horse Rescue.
I got my OTTB from Midatlantic Horse Rescue, he is the perfect fit for me and I loved dealing with such a professional and caring rescue group. Bev is an earth angel and her love and dedication to the horses is awe inspiring. I tell everyone I can about MAHR!
When I was searching for my next equine partner, MAHR was one of the many places I looked. Their horses had clearly been carefully rehabilitated and lovingly cared for. Bev was honest, open, and clear in her assessments of each horse's potential and obviously had both her horse's and customer's best interests at heart. I have continued to follow the rescue and am regularly awed by the its dedication to the animals and people it serves. They offer a second (and third and fourth) chance to horses that would otherwise be thrown away and I am grateful that such an organization exists.
Great rescue! Got our horse there and he has been amazing! Very open and honest. Very affordable as well!
I adopted my horse from MAHR going on 5 years ago this October. All i have to say is one of the best organizations to work with! Bev talked to us for quite some time, trying to figure out which horse would be the best fit. She matched me with my gelding and it was safe to say that I didnt want to try any other horses. I found my match. I would adopt another horse from them in a heartbeat!
