I give my time, sweat, money, and voice to Mid-Ohio Opera. I started it in 2014 because of the lack of accessible classical music in the Richland County area. I coordinate and run the non-profit performances that are either free concerts for the public, or an average opera ticket price of $10 with a maximum of $35 for any specific family, or group. We hire young professional singers and give them a leg up while having them perform for hometown audiences. We give HS students as interns in production and tech positions, giving them the opportunity to experience this art form first hand. Last year I brought in a Juilliard professor, Dr. Arlene Shrut, to run a weekend masterclass residency for area singers. We partner with local schools and social organizations to offer free of charge opera education and enrichment programs. We are currently raising funds for a new piano and office/rehearsal space. $10,000 would go a long way towards those goals and would serve this rust-belt area for years.
