I attended was the most impressive and awe-inspiring examples of teamwork in action I have ever seen. Ever! Council should have this scheduled and available on a regular basis every year. They wanna promote what Scouts can do? Just show video footage of the TEEN CERT class I took!
I took the class in November with my daughter. To say that the experience was eye-opening would be an understatement. We learned more over that weekend about preparing for emergencies than most students learn in a semester at school. Great instruction and learning made fun. Kudos to Mark and team!
Teen CERT works great with the kids in our 4-H group. They learned a lot about how to be ready in the case of a disaster. Great knowledge for everyone to have.
It’s been three years since we did TEEN CERT. Boys still talk about it and are able to use what they’ve learned, most recently out on the hiking trail with Kari in MN back in July. While we were at the staging area waiting for the S&R team to bring Kari off the trail, the responder had commented on how helpful the boys were and were thrilled to learn they had participated in TEEN CERT (they ran a local CERT program).
This program is open to everyone, not just Scouts. The girls will be doing this program as soon as they’re old enough
I did a CERT refresher with another group last month at a fire department and have to say that I enjoyed your class much more. They did no hands on activities like medical or extinguisher training and the instructors talked down to us the whole time. Keep up doing what you’re doing! Thank you, Lynn Roth
My sons troop went through your program in spring and he has not stopped talking about what he learned. He is a high school sophomore and said he wants to check out becoming a firefighter or emt. There should be more programs like yours that influence children in a positive way.
Between their TEEN CERT training AND Boy Scouts, my boys have learned so many valuable life skills.
Yesterday we hiked to Devil’s Kettle Falls in Northern MN. My sister in law had a seizure while hiking on the trail, and they were so helpful in helping her and getting search and rescue to our location. Not to mention keeping the younger girls calm. Seizure happened on our way off the hiking trail at 8p. Search and rescue didn’t get her fully evacuated until 3:30a. It was a long night for all, but the boys especially remained calm and comforting until it was over.
When I mentioned that the boys were trained second responders, the search and rescue crew were raving about the CERT program, so they were happy to hear that the boys were trained in TEEN CERT.
Once again, thank you Mark Rosenblum for what you do!
It has been my privilege to be a part of this great organization for many years. I love working with teenagers and I love teaching disaster preparedness, so when asked to join MidAmerica Teen CERT, it was a "no-brainer." I walk away from each and every class feeling a deep sense of satisfaction, knowing that if just one idea stuck with the kids, that could save their lives or that of their families, my time was not wasted. What a rare honor I've been given. Thanks.
I’ve done 2 events/lessons with Teen CERT, it is the best program I could’ve joined. Mark and his team are the kindest, funniest, and smartest group of people and I’m so thankful to have them in my life. Definitely recommend!
I took a Teen CERT course recently after trying to find an adult CERT class in my area. I found out the classes were basically identical so I signed up. I loved the entire experience and the instructions were amazing. I can't wait to apply my learned skills and help out with my community and volunteer with CERT in the future.
I just wanted to tell you that my daughter recently attended the TEEN CERT program and she absolutely loved it!! She gave it such raving reviews. She said she learned so much and found it very interesting. She has decided to keep her backpack in her car just in case of an emergency!
Thanks for everything you do for the kids!
Just wanted to take a moment to share with you what a great program this is. I work with scouts and had 7 from our troop participate in the disaster summit with Mark's program. All the boys walked away from that weekend with great new knowledge and a new comfort level in themselves when it comes to how to act in an emergency. But what speaks volumes is that 2 weeks later when 2 of the young men sat for their board of review and were asked what their favorite camping experience had been they both named that weekend. They then went on to describe in great detail all the different things they learned. And in case you are wondering these are 11 & 12 year old boys. Thank you for the great opportunity, hope to see more weekends like this. — feeling thankful.
The Senior Class secretary at Seckman Middle School wanted proof that my son had CPR certification, so he brought in his lifesaving merit badge and TEEN CERT paperwork. She then asked him a lot of questions about CERT, and could not believe how awesome your program is in comparison to what the school offers. He showed pictures, etc. Proud participant moment!!
We played victims for a tornado simulation exercise for Teen Cert training tonight. My daughter and husband took the 22 hour training weekend with our American Heritage Girls troop. Now they are equipped to help handle a disaster in the community. Thank you Mark Rosenblum and others for training our 44 participants. And a big thank you to LINC for the use of their facility! Outstanding everyone!!!
It was a pleasure speaking with Mr. Rosenblum regarding the Teen CERT program offered this summer through the St. Charles, Missouri, County Library System. The program's components that teach teenagers to identify and correctly respond to various emergency situations are valuable skills for today's youth. I was sorry to learn that this program is not offered in Michigan where my teenage grandson resides. This type of program would be important and beneficial to him and so many other young people throughout that state. The young men and women who live in an area that offers CERT training are very fortunate. I applaud your Teen CERT program and wish you success in establishing this valuable model for teen information and action throughout the United States. Judith Learst Flynn
Awesome program! These boys never cease to amaze me! Thanks again Mark Rosenblum!
I just wanted to send a quick note to tell you how great your program was that we attended. My son was really impressed with the information that he learned and was able to show his mother different techniques that he learned over the weekend. He also has had other boys in the troop talk about what they learned from the weekend so that we can bring back even more boys for the next event.
I was at a CPR training last weekend and a lot of what you taught there was retaught in the CPR class. Like the holding position if someone was going to pass out on you. I was so glad that the adults were able to sit through the program as well. It was very beneficial for all of us. Even if we are never on a disaster site I know what we have learned will be worth every minute that we spent there for our own safety.
Thanks again for all that you do.
Our youth group recently took emergency preparedness training through the Mid America Teen CERT course. The instructors gave up their entire weekend to teach 40 youth and adults for free, using their own supplies and materials. Somehow, the trainers were able to grab and hold the interest of the students throughout the intense weekend.
There are not many programs that have that kind of caring, commitment and generosity. We want others to know about this extraordinary team and to express our sincere gratitude and thanks for a job very well done.
I happened to come across the Mid America Teen CERT website and was curious how I too could build a top rated youth CERT program. My local EMA already has an adult CERT program and was refusing to allow a teen program to exist. Our City Government is in partnership with our local EMA so there was not much interest or opportunity to create a program unless we started one on our own somehow, without EMA endorsement. Mr. Rosenblum not only explained to me how to go about forming the program, he put me in touch with all the right people to start the process. It continues to be an uphill battle with our local EMA, but we strive to someday have a quality teen CERT program such as Mid America Teen CERT.
I recall how TEEN CERT director Mark Rosenblum and I first met in 2003 at the first Wentzville CERT class at the General Motors Assembly Facility. He was the training coordinator for the program. A year later, Mark was requested to develop a CERT program for the Wentzville School District. A number of teachers and principals took the CERT training through Mark at the Wentzville Police Department. Mark really had things organized, everything was functioning smoothly and the number of participants was steadily growing. It has been my pleasure to work with Mark in a number of capacities over the years and always found him to be industrious, dedicated and of the highest integrity. During my forty years in Wentzville, I have served the county and the city in many volunteer capacities and I became very familiar with the community's residents, and they with me. I believe I am known for my integrity and fairness. With this background in mind, I acknowledge my respect for Mark and for his extraordinary contributions to the TEEN CERT program.
