Microfinancing Partners in Africa trains its recipients before giving them a cow, a pig, etc., and what they receive is paid forward to another trainee after a year or so. This is what attracted me to the organization. Helping Africans to help themselves. I taught in secondary schools in Sierra Leone until I had to return home for health reasons. As a volunteer with MPA I feel I still have a connection with the people I grew to love.
I have been involved with MPA for over 15 years as a volunteer, donor, and member of the Board. I am definitely committed to the mission to help the poorest of the poor by giving people in Africa a handup rather than a handout. MPA uses its donations and staff to empower people in with loans and support to climb the ladder out of extreme poverty. MPA has experience over a 90% payback on their microfinancing loans!! I am most impressed with MPA because of the very close contact the Founder and the Staff has with the community leaders in Africa --- called “sandals on the ground” . It is this management and accountability of donations to countries on the other side of the world ---- that makes this nonprofit very special.
