Mission: The activities of the michigan independent providers association (mipa) are aimed at improving business conditions for the entire segment of independently-owned durable medical equipment (dme) and home health care (hhc) firms operating in michigan. Such activities will benefit patients/citizens by assuring competitive prices and choices in service providers. Mipa is a non-stock, membership organization, incorporated in the state of michigan. Industry promotion. Mipa promotes common industry interests with governmental/regulatory agencies, third party insurers, and legislators on behalf of independently-owned providers of home medical equipment, home infusion, home health care, and orthotic and prosthetic services. Promotional efforts are focused on rule-making, policies, and legislation that affect the ability of independent providers to compete in the marketplace, especially those rules and policies that may favor firms owned by patient-referring organizations (i. Programs: Education/workshops/conference. A. Industry-directors planned educational sessions, recruit speakers, and arranged meeting venues. Sessions included the best industry practices and professional advocacy. First annual conference (with educational sessions) was held in september 2011. B. Public-directors have developed and distributed publications (flyers, brochures, etc. ) to communicate their priorities related to regulations and business practices that limit choices, reduce access, and increase prices in the industry. These communications focus on promoting the high-quality standard of care available through independently-owned dme/hhc providers.
