She lide, really needed help ,told me they would, met all criteria and still didn't pay the part of rent she said they would. My faith is gone
I find great joy in volunteering at Metropolitan Minitries as I witness the exceptional impact this organization has and the profound gratitude expressed by its clients. Having dedicated five years to various volunteering roles within the organization, I am moved by the inspiring stories shared by recipients who have received its goods and services. It is incredibly touching to see former clients who have become donors, their eyes brimming with tears, as they give back and individuals who selflessly contribute their time and resources. Taking a moment to listen to these stories will undoubtedly stir deep emotions within you. My passion is helping others and I will continue volunteering for this amazing organization.
I've had the pleasure of serving MetroMin as a volunteer for the past few years. Before moving to Tampa, I had previously served a similar organization in Portland, OR, which is certainly known for it's large homeless population. While I was very impressed with that organization in the NW, I moved to Tampa and found MetroMin and was blown away by the caliber of staff, volunteers, and various locations. MetroMin is by far the most impactful organizations for the Tampa Bay community! They are fiscally responsible, intentional on their mission, and constantly assessing the needs of the Tampa community to ensure their direction and strategy is truly facilitating the MOST good here at home.
What a great organization to have serving our community! Their services reach far beyond what meets the eye. Definitely worth exploring all the ways your time, talent, and treasure can be applied to support our neighbors in need.
If you are struggling at any point in your life, please contact MetroMin where you will you be treated with dignity and compassion. You will receive resources and tools to get back on your feet, and even be in a position to assist someone else in the future.
I have donated to Metro Min for many years now. They are a guiding light in our communities of how important the mission is to reach out and help people as much as possible. There is no shortage of residents who need a helping hand, and Metropolitan Ministries works tirelessly to support those in need. Because of dedicated donors, volunteers and employees they have been able to expand their footprint over the years. They show grace, love and dedication to all who are served by them and set an example for how the rest of us should live our lives on a daily basis.
They had some seniors that had to move out of their apts. due to flooding. Metro supplied food and clothing to those residents at the hotel. I was so happy to be a part of it
I think Metro is one of the best charity that we have in our area. The work they do is awesome. They help people who are in need. And at this time, Metro is right there to help, with, rents, jobs, clothing, food, etc. I am a monthly donor, and when they need help on a special event, I contribute again. Please look into Metropolitan Ministries and see if you would like to join us as a contributor Thank you.
There is simply not enough to say about Metropolitan Ministries. I first had the honor of protecting this place as a security officer back in 2012. I spent most of my time in the Outreach area and was amazed at the genuine care and assistance provided to those in need. Frankly, I fell in Love with the ministry and it's purpose. I have lived by the words in the book of Mark, Chapter 10 verse 45 "For even the son of man does not come to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many". And I have found that Metropolitan Ministries embodies that same verse. I now have the honor again to serve this organization, it's employees, volunteers and clients/residents and am in aw of the impact it makes on peoples lives daily. I don't have to work here, I get to work here and I could not think of a greater way to serve. God is good, all the time!
Metropolitan Ministries is the 'community' family for people in need. I was once a single mother with 2 young children. I was fortunate to have blood relatives to offer me support while I was in transition. Metro offers that same kind of 'temporary' support people need while going through personal trauma. My brother rented me a home, to live in, that I could afford...The Metro family does the same. My parents were my counselors. The Metro family offers case managers and counselors to help guide people along the way. My niece picked up my kids after school and fed them a snack and helped them with their homework...You guessed it the Metro Family does this too...and so much more!!! I love my Metro Family!!!
I wholeheartedly believe in the mission of Metropolitan Ministries and the work they do in the community. They invest so much into those who are struggling to get them back on their feet, and do so much to transform lives. I also volunteer, and always have incredible experiences whether on their campus or during the holidays. The staff are so caring and so accommodating. I could not recommend Met Min enough for anyone who is looking to get engaged in their community, or even anyone who is in need of help!
Really fantastic organization that is addressing the needs of the community in a collaborative way. Challenges your notion of what a "homeless shelter" is and can do... and let me tell you Metro does a whole lot more.
We have both donated to and purchased things from the Thrift Shop. This is such a great way for our community to help Metropolitan Ministries in their incredible journey helping so many in need.
I’ve served in the kitchen on a couple occasions over the years and the care for those in need is always lovely. There’s rules to follow and work expected by residents at times but learning discipline is beneficial for anyone. I highly recommend this nonprofit.
I have volunteered for Metropolitan Ministries since I moved to Tampa 8 years ago. It is the most rewarding volunteer experience of my life, and I do a lot of volunteering. The people are genuine and a pleasure to be around. The work is rewarding and fun. The people I meet are interesting and some have become lifelong friends. I leave my shift with a sense of accomplishment and of having made a real impact. Volunteering here is good for the heart.
Metropolitan Ministries does a great job throughout the greater Tampa Bay Area. I feel confident that my donation is used wisely and benefits those in need! It’s a win- win for those in need and those able to help.
When I first moved here, like most people, they wondered who Metropolitan ministries was and I was on that list. But for some reason I donated and it felt really good to be helping others. I will do my best again to donate even though I am short on funds because I lost my husband. But this organization does so much for so many it’s worth every dime. Please help them!
Metropolitan Ministries is a shining light in the Tampa Community. We love volunteering and appreciate all they do for Tampa Bay!
They’ve really helped me feed my family healthy options. They helped me with thanksgiving and Christmas meals last year. And they are so fast and efficient.
Amazing organization They do an incredible community garden that really helps to connect people and does a lot of fun
I have been volunteering with Metropolitan Ministries for over 15 years, and not only is it always a great experience but I also know that they truly change lives and help people in my community. They serve their community and leverage resources to make an even bigger impact. You can’t go wrong giving or supporting this great organization.
I absolutely love volunteering here !! Everyone is so nice and caring and it is a great environment.
I worked at Metropolitan Ministries for three years. It is the best place I’ve ever worked. From providing care to those in housing crisis to helping reintegrate families back into livelihood to the Holiday Tent that feeds 30,000+ families, the work both in the community is just as inspiring as the camaraderie among coworkers. It was my highest honor to work at Metro and I am certain one day to return here.
Have served at metro ministries over the years. Incredible staff, culture and vision for helping the community!
Metropolitan Ministries is a nonprofit you can trust. They walk their talk. Every staff member is passionate about their mission to alleviate suffering, promote dignity, and instill self-sufficiency. They execute their mission with the highest financial standards and transparency. The community is behind them and it shows through enormous engagement.
In or about 2015, my son and I went to Metropolitan Ministries to a pro-bono legal workshop. Having a extensive background with working in administrative and advocate positions with non-profits, I brought my resume. Oh, I forgot to mention we were homeless, too.
After the workshop, I confided in the Vice President of the charity at that time and presented him with my resume, shared our personal story of homelessness…being displaced from our home, explained my son’s disability, and was told “I don’t think this program is right for you or your son.” My son is autistic. He did offer me a voucher for one night at a hotel, and I accepted, not realizing until checking in that the room was filthy, smelled of mold, and smoke. We slept in our car that night. A few months later, after a mysterious “anonymous call”, my son is placed in three different group homes, abused in two, and over medicated in one. I lived in my car, sometimes stayed with people who were concerned about my safety, and worked as much as possible while trying to help my son realize that I was still there for him and that I would not abandon him.
A year later, I was volunteering with another local non profit and found out that if I registered with the MM “outreach team”, there were other resources that were available to help when a single mom has a child or young adult that has special needs and is a student.
Every homeless person is in crisis, and I don’t hold a grudge. But there still needs to be change and other programs for families that have kids with extraordinary challenges. Metropolitan Ministries hopefully has made some important changes to their mindset about people who find themselves for whatever reason, in need of a safe place.
Also, the “executive” from MM that I spoke to that night in 2015 after the legal workshop was totally disrespectful, and showed zero sensitivity to people on the autism spectrum. The legal workshop was very helpful, though.
I hope to see improvements with breaking down the stigmas and assumptions attached to being without a place to call home. Every case is different. Every person is different. I never imagined to find myself in the situation of being displaced, but it can happen to anyone.
I prepared a nice donation of in kind goods today to be donated through one of my two part time employers where I still don’t make enough to support myself and my son. My family helped and still tries to help me when they can. His dad is absent. Just the facts.
Review from Guidestar
They do very important work and very good work. But, when their truck picks up my donations, they rarely thank me, or even say hello. The gloomiest staff, ever. Their truck has been coming to my house several times a year, for 10 years.
Our organization, the Young Men's Service League of South Tampa, a group of high school age boys and their moms, started volunteering at Metropolitan Ministries in August 2013 and we try to do something about once a month. The volunteer coordinators are always so easy and helpful in signing our group up anytime we want. We have done something different each time from working in the kitchen, the thrift store, helping set up the holiday tent , working with the kids to helping with backbacks. We look forward to continuing to volunteer at MM.
Just wanted to say a great WOW!! Had opportunity to volunteer with a group and it was an amazing time. I want to thank the ministry for allowing us the opportunity to come in and help in the kitchen. Everyone was amazing and so very helpful. It is always a pleasure to be able to give. We will be going back . If you have not had an opportunity to volunteer in this area I recommend that you stop by take this opportunity.
My group and I from the University of South Florida volunteered here. It was a wonderful experience, and fun. They are very welcoming and nice. My group was split up into 2 groups 3 of us went to the food warehouse and we separated cans, whereas the other 2 went to a clothing warehouse. If you are looking for a place to volunteer this place is a must!
We had a great time serving in the kitchen/cafeteria facility of Metropolitan Ministries. Our church small group really enjoyed serving food and cleaning the dishes. Definitely, it was a great atmosphere to help the staff and we enjoyed their company as well. Looking forward to more opportunities to help out this great ministry and to fulfill their mission!
We, as a group, volunteer every year around Thanksgiving or Christmas. This is such a rewarding experience. Metropolitan Ministries does a really great job not only in organizing the large volume of volunteers during the holidays but in providing so much help to those in need. We will continue to volunteer and to tell others about our experiences. Already looking forward to volunteering again.
I volunteered in the office when I was cut to part-time and what could have been a very stressful time in my life turned out great. Not only was volunteering fun and rewarding, I got to see first hand how well Metro Min is run. I also got to see the family and cute kids every day on my way to the office. If you are looking for a way to give back to Tampa Bay, I cannot suggest a better organization.
PS - On a personal note, I went back to school and soon to graduate with my masters degree in business. Having Metropolitan Ministries on my resume hasn't been a bad thing.
