Causes: Crime & Law, Dispute Resolution & Mediation
Mission: The mission of metro milwaukee mediation services, inc. Is to operate housing mediation programs in the areas of foreclosure and eviction. The programs assist and educate 1) homeowners whose residential property is the subject of a mortgage foreclosure action and 2) tenants and landlords when disputes arise which could, or do, result in an eviction filing. This assistance and education is done in a mediation setting, which allows the homeowners and tenants to explain the problems and to communicate with lenders and landlords in an atmosphere of cooperation and respect.
Programs: In 2017, metro milwaukee mediation services, inc. (mmms) continued to administer the metro milwaukee foreclosure mediation program (mmfmp) and the wisconsin foreclosure mediation network (wfmn). Through the mmfmp, mmms serves milwaukee, waukesha, jefferson, washington, and ozaukee counties. Through the wfmn, mmms serves dane, dodge, sauk, marathon, wood, portage, lincoln, clark, and taylor counties. In 2017, 54% of the cases mediated through mmms administration resulted in the homeowner retaining their property. Mmms also expanded service offerings in 2017 to include post-filing eviction mediation between landlords and tenants starting in may 2017 and pre-filing mediation between landlords and tenants starting in november 2017. These services are aimed at helping parties avoid preventable evictions.
