Causes: Human Services, Seniors, Supportive Housing for Older Adults
Mission: Messiah lifeways community support services ("mlcss") is a subsidiary of messiah lifeways. The organization's mission is to be a ministry that responsibly enhances the lives of older adults with christ-like love. Intentional and meaningful community life is central to achieving the organization's mission of living "life. Embraced. " we believe life can be enhanced when persons have opportunities to pursue their own growth with an inward journey of the body, mind and soul, have opportunities to journey outward and care for and share their hearts and hands with others, and have opportunities to joyously journey together with others and build respectful, participatory relationships. Our dream is to inspire everyone 55 and better to more fully embrace life; to not fear growing older, but to re-imagine the journey of aging as a time of purpose, zest, and faith-filled living.
Programs: Mlcss provides a number of important services to the capital region including: messiah lifeways adult day with locations in mechanicsburg and carlisle, messiah lifeways at home, mechanicsburg place: a senior center and more, branch creek place: a senior center and more, and messiah lifeways connections. We continue to focus on growing messiah lifeways at home and serving more people in the community, especially those with limited resources. The messiah lifeways connections membership group supports approximately 90 older adults who wish to age in place in their own homes. The program provides access to a trusted list of service providers, social interactions, care navigations, home safety inspections, volunteer opportunities and a member hotline. Holy spirit health system and pinnacle health system have both contributed to connections through donations and in-kind support. Nearly 50 vendors are currently on file. Throughout the year, members made 101 requests for member-volunteers to help them, and only 17 were unable to be accommodated. In addition, messiah lifeways, through its subsidiary messiah lifeways community support services, saw growth in its two senior centers in cumberland county - mechanicsburg place and branch creek place (in shippensburg). In total, 768 older adults were served through these two senior centers. Both branch creek place and mechanicsburg place are programs of messiah lifeways and are supported, in part, by a grant from the cumberland county office of aging and community services, the pennsylvania department of aging, and the us department of health and human services administration on aging. Branch creek place received grants for parking lot resurfacing and other capital improvements. The gift development office worked with some private donors to give tours of the mechanicsburg adult day center and begin asking for capital donations to help replace the mechanicsburg center chairs. New "advertorials" were placed in local media to educate the public on the critical role of adult day centers in caring for older adults and offering a respite to caregivers who are still in the workforce. Both centers average between 18-24 clients with both full-day and half-day offerings. The center had more than 84 inquiries throughout the year as this type of weekday programming is increasingly valuable to caregivers. Messiah lifeways at home continues serving individuals in their homes. At home helps older adults in cumberland, dauphin, perry and northern york counties and residents of messiah lifeways at mount joy country homes (located in lancaster county).
