Mission: Ymca programs meet community needs and promote community health and wellness. Each year we deliver more than $3 million worth of subsidized services to needy children, adults and families.
Programs: Health and physical education:one of the most pressing health issues facing our nation today is the epidemic of inactivity and the chronic diseases related to obesity. The ymca is at the forefront in providing accessible and creative solutions to this need. Exercise programs coupled with youth development, swimming, sports and recreation activities are accessible to all members of the community. Pricing is based on income through our membership for all programs and we provide financial assistance to families and individuals who require additional support. Partnerships with local hospitals and our schools help us to reach an even larger segment of the community. More than 14,000 individuals are impacted by these programs each year.
camping programs:outdoor experiences are provided at our two resident camps and our day camp for over 1,700 individuals each summer. Through partnerships with local schools we expose inner city youth to an experience that will last a lifetime. Leadership skills, healthy risk taking, communication and team participation skills are developed in a unique and enriching environment. In addition, our facilities are used by families, school groups and other entities for outdoor recreation and group development.
childcare programs:each week nearly 800 children have an enriching educational experience at our childcare and after-school childcare sites located in lawrence, methuen, andover, north andover, boxford and north reading. Our programs include reading education for preschool children with a focus on kindergarten readiness. We also work with families to strengthen literacy support in the home. With funding from local supporters, as well as our government partners, we provide more than 300 children with subsidized childcare.
housing services - the mv ymca is the lessor of 74 single residence units in lawrence, massachusetts for occupancy by very low-income residents. In addition, the ymca offers various educational, training and related programs to the very low-income occupants of the single room residences.
