Mission: The mission of mercer island farmers market is to promote the preservation of farm land; it provides urban residents an opportunity to purchase farm fresh, locally grown produce and agricultural products, to facilitate direct interaction among urban residents and farmers and thereby demonstrate the importance of sustainable agriculture.
Target demographics: improve lifestyles, environment, and sustain agricultural industry in WA
Direct beneficiaries per year: 10 tons of compostable food and packaging waste from landfill by maintaining "Zero Waste" policy wihtin the market with our vendors . Provide continuous education to our patrons
Geographic areas served: The Mercer Island Farmers Market connects growers, consumers, and the Island businesses to create a valuable, sustainable community asset. The benefits resonate beyond our local community by contributing to the sustainability of our region’s agricultural production.
Programs: Weekly hands - on education about earth, animals, sun, water. Provide weekly resources from Master Gardner's program. Monthly sampling and tasting education surrounding simple healthy eating, experience local, seasonal regional foods Weekly information about Washington farmers, farming methods, sustaining the lands and types of food produced Community building with weekly local musician and live entertainment.
