I came to know MentorKids when I became a mentor about 3 years ago. I was blessed to be matched with an 11 year old boy and have seen God's hand at work in his life. The best way to describe the work that Mentorkids is doing is life changing. Every child is different, but having a caring, compassionate role model that is a source of stability and love in a life that may have little, is a wonderful thing. I'm grateful to be involved as a mentor and also thankful to help MentorKids grow and touch more lives as a board member. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how dedicated and selfless the management team is at MentorKids.
I've been involved with this great ministry from day one in 1997 when Chuck Colson introduced our first Executive Director, Bill Brittain. In the meantime I've served as a Mentor, Fund Raiser and Board Member. MentorKids provides a much needed backstop for kids otherwise ticketed for a life of crime. Where their parents' failures have paved the way for difficulty and/or a life in the system, MentorKids has reached now over 1500 of them with good Christian mentoring, character building and education/career follow-up. This is the best one on one Christian discipleship ministry that I am aware of. The Kids that come through the program are prepared to become the next generation of cultural leaders, fathers and husbands. They are impacting the City of Phoenix in marvelous ways!
As a volunteer mentor I was supported every step of the way by my Mentor Coordinator. The organization provided a great initial training session and my coordinator was always there when I needed help or encouragement. MentorKids provided me and my mentee with a number of free activities throughout the year.
MentorKids USA is a great organization and I encourage everyone who cares about children and is a follower of Christ to get involved.
