Causes: Civil Rights, Mental Health
Mission: Mental health america (mha) - founded in 1909 - is the nation's leading community-based non-profit dedicated to helping all americans achieve wellness by living mentally healthier lives. Our work is driven by our commitment to promote mental health as a critical part of overall wellness, including prevention services for all, early identification and intervention for those at risk, and integrated care and treatment for those who need it, with recovery as the goal.
Programs: Constituency services: mha works with and supports mental health association affiliate efforts to provide high quality, culturally competent mental health services and support to children, adults and older adults according to local needs.
advocacy: mha advocates for laws and policies that promote health, ensure access to effective care, and protect the rights of people who have mental health issues, and their families. In alliance with our nationwide affiliate network, mha fights at the federal, state and local levels to overcome the social inequities that prevent people from reaching their full potential.
education: mha educates the public about the importance of mental health, the symptoms and treatment of disorders, and the paths to recover for full, productive lives. Through media outreach, partnerships and public outreach programs, we help reduce stigma and enable people of all ages and backgrounds to confront their mental health issues and get help.
